Are you talking about the girdles that go over the cams and hold them in place?

Re: cam cap bolt , help

your gonna have to break it down to the point you can get it out .. did it break off flush ?? if so you need to remove whatever is needed to get to the top of the broken bolt . at this point you have a few choices

#1 easy out kit ( can pick one up at home depot for 15 bucks )

#2 try and take a punch and a very light tap to the edge of the broken bolt and see if it will turn ( if it dosnt turn easy do not try anymore )

#3 a punch mark in the center of the bolt and a reverse drill bit of the proper size ......

my personal opinion as to the best way to remove it is as follows

try the punch on the edge first as this is the most simple way ( this works 1 out of 4 times ) good luck .. if it dosnt budge try this next

center punch the bolt try the reverse drill bit ( this will pull out the broken bolt 90% of the time with the least amount of mess and little work )

is this dosnt work the easy out kit will be next move . put a little grease on the drill bit ( the one sized to match the easy out you will be using ) the grease will catch most of the metal shavings . drill in just far enough to get the easy out in there and twist that sob out of there .

be careful as i have seen this go wrong for many people .. take your time

im one of those people that it went wrong for,i drilled a whole inside a broken bolt and tried to use the reverse bit to take the bolt out and the bit broke inside of the broken bolt.so im f*cked both ways.im gonna try and j-weld the cap to the head and craigslist the car if it starts and runs.

Re: cam cap bolt , help

i did near exactly the same thing, just had one frozen bolt on the [oil rail] cam cover or cap whatever we are calling it. take an 11mm socket you dont like, and a 16oz hammer and mash that sucker onto the bolt until it fits, should be such a tight fit that some pb and elbow grease will get it out.

make sure to coat the new bolts or ones you reuse in motor oil completely, before putting them in. and you can run the car without a cam cover bolt, just dont do that for long.
