What Brakes to get?

What brake pads should i go with as well as rotors? i want something good but cheap for both and don't know good brand names. I have an 01 prelude.

Re: What Brakes to get?

are you looking for an upgrade from OEM ? or are you just in need for some new pads and rotors? especially if you're all stock and don't do any real racing, upgraded brakes aren't necessary and are a big waste of money. i would suggest just getting some ceramic pads. as for rotors, keep the stock ones.

you said you wanted cheap and good... so i'll leave you with this.

cheap and reliable isn't fast
fast and cheap isn't reliable
fast and reliable isn't cheap

Do you know how contradictory that sounds? But if you want decent quailty and don't want to spend alot then try duralast gold pads from Autozone and their rotors aren't too bad either.

Re: What Brakes to get?

I have the top of t he line duralast pads from autozone, they are great, also, take your rotors to oreileys and see if they can be turned, i just got my front left one turned due to a bad squeak and it was only 8$, a lot cheaper then replacing rotors.

Re: What Brakes to get?

I've been using Axxis Ultimates on the Prelude for years...haven't found anything I really like better for street or autocross use. I'm playing with some EBC Yellows on the Miata right now, which for what's advertised as a mild race/track day pad do surprisingly well on the street, but they're terribly dusty (if you care) and not cheap!

For stock replacement rotors (easier and almost as cheap to replace 'em as to turn 'em down), I just get OEM equivalents from the FLAPS...I think the ones on the car right now are made by Wagner.

Honda pads last a very long time...too long, in fact, since they'll glaze before they'll wear down. They don't give off much dust, either, even before they glaze. But they give up quite a bit in stopping power.

Duralast Golds are the top of the line. And yes they are great.... never an issue and a lifetime warranty

I missed this earlier. The rotors are supposed to be turned while on the car, which is more expensive. If you're removing them and turning them, the run-out may end up out of spec, which means the pads and the rotor won't be exactly in parallel, and the resulting contact and braking force may be uneven. Risks giving the ABS system fits, too.
