Help. underhood noise

when i start my car first thing after its been sitting for a couple hours i have a rattling noise that seems like its coming from or around where my timing belt is. The timing belt was replaced around 117,000 im now at 124,600. once my car hits normal operating temp it goes away and i dont hear it until its had a chance to cool off for a couple hours. any ideas?????

Re: Help. underhood noise

Uummm, I agree maybe not the timing belt, but did you replace the water pump also? the tensioner?

Just checking as most like to save a little money and just fix the damaged parts, and not do the complete job.

You could get you one of those stethoscope thingys. They have them at auto parts stores, usually when I hear a noise in the engine I probe around with them and it helps localize the noise to be sure before cracking the internal parts open.

Re: Help. underhood noise

Have you taken the valve cover off and checked to see if there is damage to the belt? I would if you are hearing something smacking around under the cover.
