Re: weird electrical issue

Have you checked the relays for the fans? Also did you check the fuses under the hood and in the car by drivers side?

If I am not mistaken, if you turn on your AC and the pump turns on I think that your fans will run constantly, these are controlled by the relays. I will have to do a little research as I am not sure where they are on the 5th GEN's yet.

If they stop working try turning on the AC and see if they come on without shutting the car off and back on again.

Re: weird electrical issue

Cluster removal/repair

It's said that this can fix the lights, and also some other random electrical problems. I'd start there.

Re: weird electrical issue

Sounds like a bad or loose connection on the back of the unit maybe or maybe it is overheating or shorting out and the unit is just going bad. Check all the wires going to it. look for corrosion anywhere.

When it IS working properly do the fans run then?? If not you may have two separate issues.

Re: weird electrical issue

Do the solder fix first, (see link above) and see what happens....

Just don't click it with small children or pets near the computer. Oh, and you should probably do something about your atrocious spelling & grammar problem, just sayin'.
