New Convert- 5 SPD Swap

Guys,

After reading the posts on 5spd swap, I am convinced 100% - doing a 5spd swap is the most prudent action to take before my auto Tran give up on me.

Below are my list of parts for a 5spd swap.

1. 5 Speed Transmission (H or F Series)
2. Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
3. Reverse Switch
4. Hydraulic Lines
5. 5spd Starter
6. Transmission side mounting
7. Flywheel and Bolts
8. Clutch Slave Cylinder
9. Clutch Kit and bolts (Clutch, Pressure Plate, throw out bearing)
10. Clutch Master Cylinder
11. Clutch Pedal Assembly
12. Brake Pedal Assembly
13. Shifter Assembly and Shift linkage (Cables, Housing, Boot, Knob, Linkage)
14. 5spd Intermediate shaft (half-shaft)

What brand of parts should I buy and where (online) can I get them for reasonable price.

Re: New Convert- 5 SPD Swap

The half-shaft is debatable. A lot of people say they used the automatic one and it worked just fine. I can't say for sure though, I'm doing the swap next summer (finger's crossed that my trans will last 'till then). You should get the Eruo-R transmission though with L.S.D. O.o

Re: New Convert- 5 SPD Swap

Hey Guys,
A mechanic wants to do the swap for me. His rates are as follows.

1. Hist Parts and labor - $2,500
2. If I buy my parts , his labor fee is $1000

My question: Should I buy the parts and pay for only the labor charges or allow him to buy the parts . Which option will be in my best interest , I guss option 2 but want your openions.

Thanks

Re: New Convert- 5 SPD Swap

Regardless parts are going to cost you about $1,500. $1K for labor isn't too bad. I've heard of some shops wanting to charge around $4K (with their parts). I would probably get your own parts, that way you know he's not using junk parts or buying a transmission with over 200K miles.

Re: New Convert- 5 SPD Swap

Used Auto Parts | Junk Yards | Junk Yard DogŪ might be worth looking into too. I found a few trans. for around $400 on there. Can't remember what kind of miles they had though.

Re: New Convert- 5 SPD Swap

Yeah. I'm pretty sure any of the trans. from a H or F series motor will work. (One from a SH model might not fit a base, but I'm not positive on that) If you get one from a F series motor though (older Accords and some 4th gen Lude's had them) your acceleration won't be as great because they have a different gear ratio.

But in retrospect, yes, any 97-01 Base Prelude trans. will work.
