I have a 10k hid kit in my car and i currently live in california. Is anyone here from california with hid 10k kit? I would like to know if you ever get hassld by the cops for it. And do I need projectors to make it legal?

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

I have 8K's and never get hassled by anyone, but I live on the east coast. 10Ks are pretty Blue and non OE looking, cops can tell right away. I'd switch to 8K, but that's just me.

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

"legally" any HID kit is ileagal in the USA. To be leagal you need a OEM headlight housing for your car that was equipped from the factory with HIDS.
But really cops won't hassle you if you're 8k and below. Projectors are the best and safest route though. Personal experience I have 6k hid kit in and I live in the sf bay area and haven't been hassled once for them.

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

So if 8k is legit and 6 is better can i just swap out the bulbs or do i need to replace the ballast as well to the appropriate bulbs?

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

u can just swap out bulbs, i prefer 6k. just because the sun aint blue... so ur not gonna light up much at night with 8k.. so 6k is best to go with imo

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

I have 8k hid bought it from California auto repair shop. All aftermarket HIDs are not DOT approved, but as long as you stay within the 5000K and 6000K range of color white or stock color, you'll be fine since most cops can't tell the difference between stock and aftermarket HID's.

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

Why such high temperature? It's more blue/purple and makes your eyes more sore at night. 4300k-5000k is perfectly fine.

Re: 10k HID kit in california.

Please do all other drivers a favor and properly install HIDs. Meaning don't just simply swap out and put in the bulbs but get the appropriate housing because you are just blinding everyone else on the road. And when conditions are horrible and you can only see up to 20-30 feet in front of you, someone with HIDs on the opposite side of a two lane road does not help. With housing it is legal, without it is illegal.
