From jealousy to inspiration..

Well, I was pretty down on myself a few days ago due to my roommate getting a boosted 240 and barely knowing anything about turbos. But I found some inspiration to make me happy with my car. I can't turbo it right now because I am in college, but I can make it look good.

Plans/What I have ordered:

1. Shift boot/ebrake boot from redlinegoods.com
2. New shift knob (I dont wanna spoil it :P) - DONE!
3. USDM 5 switch holder and usdm fog light button, will be doing the DIY on making that work with the JDM harness so I can have my dimmer button back (its obnoxious reaching down under the dash to use it haha). - DONE
4. Finally finishing up my door sill installation, have continually had issues with the metal part falling off since I had to remove them from the plastic to realign them. I have some heavy duty silicon now, they aren't coming off again.
5. Will be doing a power steering delete finally (I have had the belt off for 10 months due to a crack in the high pressure line).
6. Replacing the fuel filter due to a horrible bogging in first/second when taking off, I have checked/cleaned everything else except the fuel pump, if this doesnt fix it, that is next.
7. Painting various brackets and pieces in the engine bay.
8. Finishing up a custom valve cover paint job I started 14 months ago (It will be insane, if I ever finish it!).
9. On top of all that, I bought a large amount of simple green and will be detailing the engine bay, possibly reading up on wire tucks and doing some of the more simple parts after/while I am cleaning.

Pictures will be added as progress is made, on the 16th there is a car show in my home town for our yearly fall festival at the park. They added a import/foreign class last year, and my goal is to have all this done by then and enter it, even if I don't win I just want to let everyone see my car!

Glad to hear your motivation is back bro!
I keep looking into wire tucks. So many clean ass engine bays out there. Going to probably be on my list after the 5-speed swap next summer. Get me lots of pics if you do it.

I am glad its back too, since I started ordering those parts and buying cleaning supplies I smile every time I look at my car!

I will definitely document my half-tuck if it happens!

Re: From jealousy to inspiration..

I spend a few hours in the garage last night just painting random bracketry. I pulled my calipers off so I can't clean and paint them, and knowing I have parts coming in the mail makes me very happy. So I get you.

your plans sound good, keep us updated. dbd has a good idea w/ painting random bracketry, I've been doing this for a while now.

Re: From jealousy to inspiration..

Totally get you guys, waiting for parts to come in builds up so much anticipation. I just ordered my short ram intake a few hours ago, and I'm allready getting itchy for it.
And whenever I order a new part I instantlly start updating the wish list and checking if I can budget out the money for the next part. It's so addicting! Who needs heroin when you've got a Prelude?!

Re: From jealousy to inspiration..

Little things also make a difference. I re-routed my throttle cable under the inlet manifold because I was bored one afternoon. But that 10 minute (and 1 beer) job cleans up the engine bay an unbelievable amount.

Also, don't be down about your mate who knows little about turbos buying a boosted rps13; he prolly won't have it long.

Re: From jealousy to inspiration..

I think dbd just coined a new word.... "bracketry."

And once I get my clutch ordered (about twenty dollars and one check away from exedy stage 1 + fidanza 8lb.) I'm going to continue the accenting work I started with painting my VC. Gotta paint random bracketry and do my gauge bezels and stuff. Also want to do my A/C delete, and still debating on a CC and P/S delete.

Little stuff makes the car look good, I just gotta fix my bigger problems first. Eventually I want to enter mine into a car show (a small local one prolly) but it needs quite a bit of work to get it enough away from stock that I could even justify entering it.

Word. This kid at my job just got a Cobalt SS (and he didn't even know if it was the SC or TC version :smackhead:), his grandparents bought it for him. I told him boosted cars require a lot more attention that naturally aspirated cars, and he was like "uhh what?" I told him to do his research and he said "It's just a car." I give the car about 3 months before it takes a **** on him and he asks me to look at it. lol

Re: From jealousy to inspiration..

Yeah luckily for my roommate I am a nice guy, and hes my best friend, so I just spent the last 3 hours running brand new wires for his battery that the previous owner relocated to the trunk. The only reason that 240 will get into good condition is because I have an influence on him in the car world, he doesn't know much, but I give him subtle hints as to what he should do, so he has been doing tons of research the past few days, and he joined a 240 forum. :D

Drove around for an hour or so today, LOVE this shift knob, its weight and form is perfect for me. Very good balance :)

Plus for only 45$ shipped, pretty good deal, ordered it monday, got here thursday early morning via usps.

Re: From jealousy to inspiration..

What color are you painting your brackets in the engine bay? I am thinking of started to paint some of mine and want to know colors people have tried and what you think would look good on my 99lude.

What about all blue brackets, vac lines, cable protectors, etc? Would that be overkill?
