high flow cat

I tried a couple searches but nothing turned up. I got the code P0420 for my cat today on my '00 base. It's got an RS-R exhaust put on by the previous owner so i figured if I'm replacing a cat i might as well put in a high-flow right? Any recommendations of experiences? I'm hoping it'll solve this feeling lately that she's been a little slow and hasn't sounded quite right.

Re: high flow cat

I'll probably go magnaflow, i wish i could do test pipe but massachusetts doesn't like it when you pollute their environment with OBDII cars, It's only ok if they're factory OBDI. Mass is rediculous sometimes lol. Thanks for the replies!

its illegal in NYS as well but i guess it helps if your good friend is a mechanic who does your inspection and dont get me wrong i dont like polluting the environment but i needed a new cat cuz mine was clogged to **** and a test pipe helps the car breather better and its a lot cheaper lol

Re: high flow cat

Yea I too went the test pipe route. My cat had broken catalyst rattling around in it and I didn't want to pay $130 for a new one. So I got a $10 test pipe.

However I'm prolly gonna have to go through emissions inspection next year, hopefully they don't sniff test....

Anyway I believe the code you're getting may not be the catayltic converter. It could possibly be a o2 sensor or something. I forget. You can look up your code on http://www.obd-codes.com/ and see what it could be.

Makes me happy that Michigan doesn't do emission checks.

Is this the Hi flow Cat. Converter or is this a different one? I wasn't sure if they had 2 types.

Thanks

Re: high flow cat

^ do huh? lol... it's a link to their main page... they have obdI and obdII compliant cats...
click here, then click again on "universal" "direct fit or "available products" (for metal substrate) and look around...
HottExhaust.com - Magnaflow Car Sound Catalytic Converters

I have a high flow metal substrate cat... basically a glorified test pipe... similar to this:
Magnaflow 59926-Magnaflow Universal Catalytic Converters-Spun Metallic Substrate High Flow-Hottexhaust

mine's just universal and welded in... but you can get direct fit... examples of each (THEY HAVE MORE... be sure to look around before deciding):

universal:
obdII (for you 5th genners, or 96ers) universal 2.5" metal substrate (they have 3" cats too...)
Magnaflow 59906-Magnaflow Universal Catalytic Converters-Spun Metallic Substrate High Flow-Hottexhaust

obdI universal ceramic substrate (still high-flow) 2.5" (they have 3" too)
Magnaflow 34006-Magnaflow Universal Catalytic Converters-California Non OBDII-Hottexhaust cali approved!

obdII universal ceramic substrate (still high-flow)
http://www.hottexhaust.com/detail.as...UCT_ID=99069HM 3" non cali
http://www.hottexhaust.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=41206 2.5" cali

direct fit cats (BOO, GO CUSTOM!!!)
4th gen:
Magnaflow 22624-Magnaflow Catalytic Direct Fit-Honda-Hottexhaust
Magnaflow 36624-Magnaflow Catalytic Direct Fit-Honda-Hottexhaust cali approved
5th gen (not cali approved... that's why the high flow ceramic universal and custom exhaust wins.. plus universals are cheaper):
Magnaflow 231671-Magnaflow Catalytic Direct Fit-Honda-Hottexhaust non sh
Magnaflow 22644-Magnaflow Catalytic Direct Fit-Honda-Hottexhaust

Re: high flow cat

I know its a link to their page, i found the direct fit for the 5th gen. but it doesnt state Hi-flow. Just wanted to know if this was the same as OEM or if all the Converters are high flow on the site?

I've got an after-market exhaust that the previous owner installed, It's an RS-R exhaust but that's about all i know. How do i figure out what size cat to buy?
