A/C stopped working + check engine light

I searched for a bit and didn't find any answers...

My CEL came on last Friday after I parked my car in my work parking lot idling with the A/C on. A few minutes before that, I took the car for a quick blast- redlining in 1st and 2nd. The CEL didn't appear until a few minutes later after I parked and idled for the rest of my lunch. The car runs fine but the CEL is still on.

Today at lunch, I get in the car and turn the A/C on and I'm wondering how long it's going to take to feel cool air because it was taking forever. Well, it never got cold. I bought it last Monday and the air has worked until I noticed it today. I didn't use it this morning. I don't think I used the A/C last Friday when the CEL appeared either.

My question is, would an A/C problem trip a CEL? Or are they potentially different issues? The compressor is engaging when I turn the A/C on. There's just no cold air at all. I'm coming from the world of FBodies and DSMs, so I'm new to Preludes.

Man, it's 90 degress today. Ugh.

I'd say you have a bad compressor. time to replace that puppy. Ididn't use mine for 3+ years (except when the defrost was on) and it finally bit the big one.

get the ecu scanned free at an autozone to find out about the cel.

as for the A/C if you can hear the compressor running yet it's not cold then you are probably out of freon and have a leak. If you just bought it then it's likely that that whomever you bought it from charged it just before showing it to you so you would not know about the leak.

Oh, to fix the problem you will need to run dye through the system to find the leak, repair the leak, flush the system, then charge it. Most any shop can do this for you, just make you trust them because you can cause damage easily if it is done wrong.

It turns out the CEL was a 72- cylinder 2 misfire. I was able to pull the code myself after researching how to do it (it's so simple!). Reset the ECM and it hasn't come back.

As far as the AC, there's a sticker that says dye was put into the system to check for leaks, so I'll have to take it somewhere to detect the problem(s).

So, I guess the CEL and AC dying was a coincidence.

What would I check the fuses for? The compressor engages and the fans turn on. It sucks because the AC worked perfectly for 4 days then just died out of the blue. I'm just going to take it to a shop that's advertising AC inspections.

Glad my last phase at UTI was HVAC.

I actually have a 3 inch thick Honda shop manual for 2000 Preludes that the previous owner included.
