Icon5 Ebay Intake?

So while replacing the starter in my lude today I found a very nice tear in my stock intake tubing.....

I know, awesome....right?

Anyways, after using duct tape to temporarily fix the issue (which now i have an explanation for the infrequent small amounts of black smoke out of the tail pipe I see once in a while), I decided to use this as an excuse to buy a new intake. I checked around all the respectable brands and have a few ideas of what to buy, but now I have two questions.

Q#1: Is it worth the extra $40 to buy a cheap Ebay intake for the time being until I get the money for a quality part?

And Q#2: Which ebay intake looks the best in terms of value?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Ya its just BLACK, not blue, so im not worried about it.

So stay away from the Ebay intakes? I figured it was worth the $40 until i have the cash for something better...should i just save up the money and forget the cheap intake?

Re: Ebay Intake?

I beg to differ on staying away from eBay parts. My lude had an bay header for $80 shipped and it was nice. It didn't add much but it was still a noticeable gain in hp. Also my friend Donovan have a lude with an eBay intake and it looks nice and he hasn't had any problems with it.

Re: Ebay Intake?

Our cars don't really respond that well to bolt-ons anyways, so a $300 intake or a $40 one probably wont make a noticeable difference anyways. If you are just worried about the hole in your stock intake, and want that cool CAI sound. Just pick up the EBay one. Definitely remove the resonator though, sounds a lot nicer.

Re: Ebay Intake?

All of the piping is the same. It is reverse engineering, years ago AEM came out with a "revolutionary" intake and then lesser companies bought them and reproduced them. All the piping is the same, I have seen drift guys run PVC piping or even dryer ducting as intake piping. All it is is a pipe to move air. There is no difference between the AEM intake and the Ebay intake. The thing that matters is your filter. K&N filter with an ebay intake and that is all that matters.

Brand doesn't matter because like everyone is saying... It's an intake. You would be lucky to see +1hp on a good day. The shorter the intake tubing, the better the throttle response, but also, the shorter the intake tubing, the higher the IAT's. Your choice. More power and less throttle response, or more throttle response less power. Or just meet in the middle with a short ram. Either way, it's not like its a life changing decision here. Get some piping, grab a K&N and be done with it. Lol.

Re: Ebay Intake?

There are dyno charts floating around here somewhere comparing intakes.
Basically the only intake that made power over stock was the AEM V2... but not much at all.

Re: Ebay Intake?

btw, you guys are forgetting one major difference between for example AEM and ebay. this is something i learned the hard way. ebay piping is usually PLASTIC. the one for 12 is exactly the one i had. AEM, on the other hand is made of a strong alloy metal. now, if u add high heat (it does get rly hot under that hood) to plastic, guess what happens? its gonna crack. sooner or later. after i get done driving i would pop my hood n try to touch the inlet pipe, and thing was hot as hell. now with my AEM CAI, i can drive for hrs, pull over, pop my hood and my inlet pipe is nice and cold. :) n dont forget, cold air is more dense....
