crank pulley bolt

i tightened my crank pulley bolt to 150lbs of torque and in the manual it says that it should be 180lbs, i want to take it to a shop so they tighten it more.is it safe to run the motor with crank pulley bolt not tightened all the way?

Re: crank pulley bolt

Probably, but I wouldn't. You can't get ahold of a cordless impact for a minute to tighten it?

Re: crank pulley bolt

150 ft/lbs is pretty damn tight to begin with. That is probably fine. I'd leave it. I just did my Timing belt 2 weeks ago and put my crank pulley back on with a 1/2" impact gun. Its on there at prob 140-155 ft/lbs or less. It's not going anywhere, been driving it hard for 2 weeks and no problem. Whens the last time you heard someones crank pulley fell off?? Your not gonna hit 180 ft/lbs with a cordless impact. Prob not even going to hit 180 ft/lbs with a 1/2 inch impact gun. You prob going to have to use a 3/4 inch impact gun like the ones they use to work on big rigs.

Re: crank pulley bolt

have someone take you to autozone and rent their big torque wrench. that thing goes up to like 250 ftlbs.
