my engine sounds annoying

I've been going crazy to the sound of my engine its kinda annoying. can you guys tell me if this is a normal sound of h22a4 thanks.

BTW my transmission mount (rear) kinda already worn out but I'm not sure though b/c every time i switch the gear into Reverse the back of the car lift up so i was wondering maybe that the mount is the one making my engine sound noisy.

Re: my engine sounds annoying

Sounds normal to me as mine sounds the same.....is it driving OK? No CEL's? All 4 cylinder Honda's after some miles on the engine sounds like that, the tapping noise. I did detect some hissing noises, like there was a air/exhaust leak some where.

Re: my engine sounds annoying

id suggest having a mechanic set the valves and see how it sounds then . i know the 97 98s had a problem with the lost motion assembly but im pretty sure in 99 they went back to spring style lost motion set up . valves sound a little loud have a mechanic do them and make sure he knows there to be done with a cold motor ( not even slightly warm ) . i think this will make her quiet down .

Like element already said...probably need a valve adjustment.

PS - I'd like to see this dual header setup.

Re: my engine sounds annoying

Pretty much the same here too, but might be a little louder than mine but were you in a garage? That probably just amplified it. I'm sure mine can use a valve adjustment as well, especially since a valve won't seat properly and causing me to have a cylinder 1 misfire. (Thats bad huh?) anyhow good luck on the valve adjustment. Post up the sounds after the job so we can hear the difference.

probably the hissing noise you're hearing is my aem v2 intake sucking air

i took it to my mechanic and he said there's no need to adjust the valves b/c its hydraulic???? but i didn't believe that so I'm gonna look for another mechanic that knows how to adjust the valves and i hope that about it.

You are right to not believe him because he is wrong. They are not hydraulic.

Re: my engine sounds annoying

I'd say get the valves checked of course but I'm just throwing this out there cause I had a noise very close to this but do you still have power steering? My pump was going bad and sounded just like this, but I would still get the valves checked because it makes more since to me.

i probably gonna do that valves next after i get the front and rear engine mount fixed b/c earlier i took my car to one of my friends mechanic he has prelude too and i asked the mechanic why my car is vibrating then he checked it by switching the gear to reverse and drive and he told me that the mount is worn out i forgot to ask about the valves but i hope the engine mount help quiet down the noises

yes i still have the steering pump but i notice a little leak from the bearing so probably its gonna be on my list too lol and i remember when my dad tried to drive my car he said my steering wheel is kinda hard to turn but for me it turns fine.
