Water pump resuse

just trying to save some cash in this tough economy, doing an engine assembly and want to reuse my water pump which has around 80k miles on it, would that be a good idea if i just replace the o-ring instead of the whole water pump?thanks

Re: Water pump resuse

not a good idea. Think about how much of a bitch it is to change a water pump with the engine already in the car...

water pumps are cheap anyway

How do I put this lightly

ah NO!!!!!!!, think about it after you do all that labor setting it on TDC, making sure you have everything lined up and put back together, then I week later your bearing fails.

Now how stupid will you feel if you didn't spend the $58.99 to get the job done right in the first place? Plus your taking a chance snapping the timing belt which will bend valves then your looking at having the head shaved, new head gasket, bad valves replaced plus a new timing belt job, all to save you $60?

The "o-ring" is the least of your problems when you are talking about using the old water pump BTW.

Exactly why I just changed mine last weekend when I did my timing belt, when there was absolutely no problem with the old one, same reason why I changed the belt tensioner too. Don't be cheap.....do it!
