Compression test results...

just got done with my compression test. it got 120 on all 4 cylinders. I heard the numbers have to be close, but 120 is extremly low don't ya think? i think the gauge might have had a little leak or something but all the numbers where 120 and i THINK i did it right but idk. does that sound about right? i know my motor is good(i think) but i just wanted to test it to see what it was. i will be doing a leak down test this week or next week so that'll give me a better idea of the condition of the motor

Compression on an internally stock USDM H22 is supposed to be between 155 and 185 psi (I think) according to the Helms. You're very low lol.

i followed someone's tut on here. but i didn't do it a wot. and i also didn't do the one where you pour a teaspoon of oil which is the wet test right? (I didn't have oil so i couldnt do the wet test lol. and i got a slight oil leak, not sure from where but ima find it from where tomorrow. not sure if this all matters)

Yeah that's a wet test. Maybe get a different compression tester and try it again?

yeah thats what im thinking of doing lol. Also my valves ticking louder than normal ever since my tensioner went out but i never drove it like that just started it and heard it and turned it off and fixed it after. so idk if the valves were bent or just need a adjustment. can this be another reason why it was low? I'm trying to figure out the reasons why it would be low yet consistent throughout all cylinders

You prolly need a valve adjustment. That will affect your compression readings.

I read somewhere (god knows where) on here that WOT would cause the numbers to jump a bit in PSI as opposed to just cranking the motor and not pushing the pedal.

Even then though, when I blew my timing belt and ran tests, I my motor was ~180 PSI in each cylinder with closed throttle. I would definitely recommend running the test again with a different gauge. Just go to AutoZone and rent one.

WOT does cause the numbers to be higher, which most people do. I would definitely try a different gauge if you think yours is leaking.

anyways.... I did a motor build that was meant to run low comp. and I had 120 across the board also. I would definitely check your valve clearances.

Alight well first of all the compression test tut on here is wrong. I don't know the correct way myself, I haven't taken any engine classes yet. My bad.

Anyway the fact that your numbers are low prolly means you did the test wrong. Or your tester is leaking. Prolly not your engine. The more important thing is that your cylinders are close in psi. If all your cylinders are the same, you're good. If you truly want to know the condition of the engine, do a leakdown test.

Hah I was gonna say the same about the numbers being close accross the cylinders! That is a good thing op. I'd try a different tester asap!
