I think you can reach a bit more, I never go for a fulltank so I can't tell but try a tune up if it's not done already, your tires pressure, etc...

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

Driving conservatively is key, aka not pushing your car to its limits.
I dont know how you driver your car without getting over 3K???

My lil H23 feels like it is bogging down if I dont at least go to 4K RPM?
this led me to do the following. (old school Chevy V8 gal here.)

..... here is what I did to go from about 23MPG to 30mpg.
1) I found a local station that sells non-ethanol fuel. Then with the help of the station I found another fuel stop about 250miles from where I was. (since the BEST my car was doing about 23 mpg highway-- I calculated about 10-12 gallons - hence the 250 mile mark) I used a premium, non-ethanol fuel and added a fuel system cleaner and octane booster.
Write down your mileage

2) I did a tune up on my car: Plugs, wires, Dist cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter and I got a full service oil change. Including balancing the air pressure in my tires.

3) I took a LONG road trip - aprox 250+ miles of running my car in 5th gear, cruise control set at 80 mph. This is going to have your (stock geared car) running around 5,000 rpm. Don't do a lot of hot rodding, passing, or red lining. Conservative is the key.

Run your tank as low as possible.

4)Fill up with non-ethanol fuel (then in my case- go to a casino, gamble, eat some good food, etc) write down your mileage and subtract your beginning mileage from this-- now note how much fuel it took to fill up your car. Divide this into the mileage and note your fuel mileage. Drive home.

5) Repeat #4 when you get home.

On a two lane mountainous highway, with passing and hi-revving some, my last trip I was able to squeeze out 29.2 mpg. The same kind of trip, all interstate @ 80 mph, I was able to get 29.8 mpg.

I believe this works; from personal experience and a marked change in accelerator response in my car. I only drive it about 4-5 miles to work and 4-5 miles home 5 days a week, rarely going any where on the weekends (until recently) so I KNOW my car was suffering buildup in the fuel system. Cleaning it out/up, and only running a non ethanol premium fuels has made worlds of difference, not only in gas mileage but in the thrill of driving a quicker little car.

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

I averaged 19mpg this last time I filled up. That's driving hard on the interstate, and mixed hard and easy in the city. I've got a '94 Prelude VTEC with 180k miles. It was about 220mi to a tank. From full to low fuel light is about 13.2 gallons in my car. I've got a program on my phone called "aCar", in which you put all your vehicle's info, fuel costs/type/brand, maintenance, etc. and it does some cool sh!t. I like it because it breaks down how much it costs me to own the car per day, shows trends in fuel economy over time periods, maintenance intervals, etc.

If you have an Android or iPhone, I'd recommend downloading it.

Yup. I've gotten up to about 340 miles out of a tank before, but that was when the weather was cool (so no A/C needed) and the entire tank was burned on the interstate with no city miles.

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

250 is ok for you?? If you are only getting 20mpg something is seriously wrong!

12 gal @ 25mpg = 300mi
12 gal @ 29mpg = 348mi

a Significant Difference at $3.21/gal, $38.52 (premium 'round these parts)

don't you think it is worth it to tune up your car and getting running at its best?

Considering that I have leaks at every single exhaust gasket up to the cat, and it has 180k miles, I'm comfortable getting 20mpg combined city/highway. I do have a lead foot when it comes to on-ramps.

Premium is only $2.68 here (93 Octane).

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

I get about 300 miles out of every single tank, and I thought that sucked because I used to be able to squeeze 420 miles per tank (sometimes) on my 92 Accord. And I think the Accord has a smaller tank. If your only getting 250 miles I think your due for a tune up.

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

I can usually get about 300 in my 98 (non SH) with about 90% of that driving being city. I just did about a 210 miles road trip (all highway) and only used a little over half tank on that

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

I normally get around 340-380 on a tank, when I drive too school and back which is all highway. The best I have calculated was 29.8MPG. I always use the same gas station which is a Wilco/Hess non-ethanol station. I only use 93.

If I use a gas with 10% ethanol I only get about 25mpg on that same trip. Adding ethanol to fuel is a scam. It is the same price as normal gas and it gets worse gas mileage.

2001, 209K miles, check every tank, long history, at least 25 mpg each fill up, over 27 mpg last 3 fill ups, auto, 330 miles per tank. Run AC constantly and use Premium fuel only, hot in Florida. Easy driving and maintenance is the key.

'92, 198k miles, 400 miles per tank. Mixed driving but leans more towards highway. I rarely see less than 27mpg, but usually 30/31. I use standard 10% ethanol fuel from Kroger, Shell, BP, but no off brands. Recent plugs, cap, rotor, older wires. I suppose the key is just being light on the throttle

Im running a different H22 and gearbox to you guys, but I generally only see 220 miles to a full tank. But thats no motorway, purely twisty country roads.

Re: *** Gas Mileage, Anybody? ***

5th gen h22, I avg 25-27 mpg, mixed city and hwy. Highest I've ever got was 32mpg on one tank. That was in the mountains of NC/Tn.

Edit: filled up today after classes. I put 9.8 gallons in the car with 270.1 on the trip meter. ~27mpg
