Does anyone know the proper way of painting the bottom grill?
Any advice or links to DIY's would be deeply appreciated

i would imagine you mask it off, prime, paint and clear just like any other body part

Mask and spray with bumper coating.

don't forget to throw some masking in front of the radiator too.. and if possible, remove the tape edge of the masking immediately after spraying to avoid peeling the new finish off with the tape when it dries... those flexable bumper coatings have a tendancy to do that.

having some eyes and some hands with working fingers would be pretty helpful, but not required. spray paint and some masking tape to tape off the bumper and the radiator, rad support, and whatever else is behind it....is required.

Might be easier and safer to just take the bumper off. Over spray can be a bitch some times.

ya taking the bumper off would probably be the safest way. you have any idea how many screws there are and where they are located? but if i were to keep the bumper on couldn't i just place a big piece of cardboard between the bumper and the radiator? wouldn't that protect everything?

I agree to this method, as that type of paint is made to bend and flex. Resistant to chipping and peeling.

Now about painting this, its all about the prep work, if you don't clean and prep that piece, might look good for a couple days but after it starts to peel and chip. Your going to wish you never painted it.

Re: Does anyone know the proper way of doing this modification? (pic inside)

just take the bumper off, its easy as hell. theres the twop screws on the splash guard, then under the grille theres a few clips. remember to disconnect the turn signals/foggies if you got em. i took off my bumper, both my fenders and some other stuff in like 15 minutes
