Icon8 Lost keys 5th gen prelude

ok so i lost my keys about a month ago, i went to the dealership they wanted 619 for the immoblizer with the black and red key plus installation. i buy the immoblizer seperate for 340. i have a locksmith try to program the keys but it saids communication fail. he tell me its a electrical problem. he checked all the cables and wires he said thier fine. he put gas in the intake and turned the car on but the car turned back off. he though it was the fuel pumt but he checked it and it was ok too. so he tell me i need a new ecu because its not responding to the programer. everything worked fine before i lost my keys..i dont see how my ecu would not be working? is ther a way to know if the ecu is bad? i dont have much money to be buying unessasary things. what should i do?

They will need a key to make a clone. Correct me if I'm wrong but that was what the red key was for.

I would not do anything else, I'm sure the imobilzer you got was not what you needed. If you want it done right go to the dealer. As for paying top dollar, I bet next time you wont loose your keys.

go to the dealer. some backyard mechanic isn't going to be able to do it properly without the expensive electronic machinery that is necessary

5th gen's are equiped with an immobilizer, not so simple.

Re: Lost keys 5th gen prelude

This happened to me back around Christmastime and it sucks. As it was explained to me then the immobilizer basically stores an encryption key with the same security as a credit card processing terminal. The decryption key to make a new key is stored on the red key. Not even an ignition key can be used to make a copy. This immobilizer unit checks the key for this encryption code each time you start your car. If it's not there it shuts the car off, as you experienced. Honda has no way to decrypt your immobilizer if you don't have the red key anymore. Even with your VIN they can't do squat because everything is encrypted individually to the immobilizer unit. That red key is the only way to decrypt the codes. Without it a new immobilizer needs to be put in with a new decryption key and a red key to encrypt other ignition keys and make them actually work. As far as I know this is one job no one but a Honda dealer can perform and they charge an arm and a leg. That's why I've looked like an amputee since Christmastime lol.
