Icon5 rebuild or swap?

hey, i don't know where this post should go so im sorry

my 5th gen currently has a H22A4, nothing wrong with it, 121k, replaced basically all pumps, plugs, and hoses. Im thinking of swapping it for an H22A type s, but one of my prelude buddy told me i shouldn't swap unless my engine blows. Should i just rebuild in the future instead?

Re: rebuild or swap?

Why would you scrap a motor at 121k miles? If you want Type-S performance, just source some cams, pistons, and intake manifold from the Type-S and call it a day.

If you're gonna get rid of a motor at 121k miles, I'll take it off your hands so it doesn't sit around and take up space.

Type s is a waste of money. I almost made that mistake. In the future when your motor starts getting bad, rebuild it with better parts.

When you start neglecting it and abusing it. If you treat a motor well, it will return the favor.

Re: rebuild or swap?

It depends. Are you looking to make maximum power? Are you looking for safe, reliable, fun power on stock internals? There are lots of different applications, and we need to know what you want/need before we can help you.

Re: rebuild or swap?

You are throwing out very vague terms here. Why don't you head into the Forced Induction section, read all the stickies relative to turbocharging, then come back with more specific questions so we can help you better.

Re: rebuild or swap?

I'm not trying to be a dick, don't get me wrong or anything. There is just literally tons and tons of information and things to learn about turbocharging. I honestly don't even know where to start haha. Head here to start: TurboByGarrett.com - Turbo Tech101. Read 101-103 and you'll get a basic idea of how turbocharging works.

Just a few threads for install reference: http://home.comcast.net/~ndd3d/TurboInstall.pdf

-->COMPLETE How-To:: Turbocharge Your Honda // Rep-ing Hypnotik Speed - Honda-Tech

Read the stickies in the FI section as well as anything else you can find. There is so much to learn it's ridiculous. Good luck and have fun staying up late to read! haha

Re: rebuild or swap?

Depends on "cheap". I'd stay away from a $500 full kit off ebay. Some of the kits I've been looking into have been around $2.5K-$3K. Probably cheaper if you build the kit yourself, will just take some time to find all your parts.Just make sure you leave enough in your budget to get that thing tuned as soon as your turbo is up and running. A good tune will be one of the main keys in making sure your engine won't go boom on you.
