Need new tires...whats up?

Well I was driving home on the highway, and hit something doing about 70mph. We think it was a rodent, like an opossum or raccoon or some kind of crazy ohio mole-rat.

Anyway it shifted the belt in my right front tire, and the car shakes pretty good now.

Right now all my tires are 205/40/R17. The fronts are Hankook Ventus Vr4's and the rears are Hankook Ventus HRII's.

It always bothered me that the front and back didn't match, so now is my chance to correct that.

My question to you. I found two possibilities. I'm thinking of going with either a set of (2) Hankook Ventus HRII's from 1010tires.com, which would cost about $215.00. Or I could get a set of (4) Fuzion Zri's from tirerack.com for $335.00.

I really only need the one tire, but that would give me 3 HRII's and one VR4, which would drive me up the wall. So I'd rather get the two and stick them in the front. However for about $100 more I could get a whole new set of tires.

The only problem is right now I have about $500. I need to pay $260 for rent this week. After that I have about another $700 coming to me. About $400 of that is going to a new clutch and flywheel. And I need new ball joints, and I have no idea how much they're going to be yet.

Either choice is not going to leave me with much left, especially after spending living money (smokes/food/gas). So which do you think is smarter?

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for,,,,,

But here lately due to the extented hype in compact sport tuner cars, and the movies contributing... Now you will pay big money for a name..

Example have you ever heard of the Michelin Primacy MXV4...

I have owned many many cars don't have enough fingers and toes to count them all and many many many brand names of tires. I have never come across a tire that holds the road quite like these.

They have excellent ratings in dry, wet, and winter conditions. Plus they have a 50,000 mile warranty. Now do any of those Falken, Toyo, whatevers even have a mileage warranty not many do.

Why pay that much money for a tire that won't even last 6 month to 9 months. When you can have a tire thats good for about 4 years or more.

I bet you would go thru three to four sets of those Hankooks before I even think about having to replace these Michelins.

Add up the four sets of Hankooks then add up one set of the michelins (no brainer)

Re: Need new tires...whats up?

They are $152 a tire now, well $30 cheaper a tire when I bought them. Thats a savings of $120.

Go to the Michelin website and see what people are saying about these tires.

They go in anything, dry, wet and snow. Best all around tire and I stand corrected they have a 60,000 mile warranty.

My brother had those on his 02 RSX Type S, he slid off a paved back country road in dry conditions at 60 mph, and totalled it. Not that heavy of a turn either.

I hit cloverleafs on the expressway sometimes 60 or 65 mph and not even a chirp or slide. Well I do have strut tower bars front and rear, my brother only had the stock front on the RSX, but still.

I ran a set of Fuzion Zri's on my 944 and was very happy with them...not a bad tire for the price. Mich's are a awesome tire all the way around though.

I am a big BFG fan myself. Their gforce line has a lot of good tires from all season to sticky fun tires.

Right now on discount tire direct if you buy a set of 4 you get a $60 mail in rebate.

I have one of the sets from the gforce line, I to can do highway cloverleafs at ~60 without any chirps or skids, I only have a front strut bar.

I believe my set was around ~425.

Re: Need new tires...whats up?

Alright, not exactly where I was hoping this thread would go...

I'm going for the two hankooks, I know they aren't the best tire, but other than this one incident they've actually held up pretty good. I'll get better tires/rims in the future, when I can actually afford it. Right now I have to buy these tires then buy a probably $400 clutch/flywheel before my clutch is completely gone.

and about my neo gen suggestion, wut do u mean "there are those names again (the hype), tires only good for dry conditions".....some pz'ers gave great reviews about the tire on the tire thread

" Bad- None "

" Bad- nothing, but if i had to say something, treadwear could be better i suppose."
