Check the 5th gen resource guides, you'll often find answers very quickly as a lot of us have had similar issues. Props to Si Speed for putting it together.

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

it could be a knock sensor code being thrown by a loose crank pulley u may want to check if its loose. Just last weekend my engine light came on and i ignored it cause it went off the next day...a couple days later i brought my car to a fast acceleration and my pulley broke off cause it was loose and it was vibrating against my engine making it think it was knocking

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

Jus either hit up PEPBOYS like you said or AUTOZONE and pull up the code and go from there on. No need beating around the bush of the "it could be...."

Nonetheless it could be the knock or usually the O2.
Have it checked and keep us posted!!!

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

No codes yet huh? Could be alot of things really, I replaced my exhuast this past year and about three days later I threw a code thought it was the new CAT (magnaflo, hi flo) but I didn't change my O2 senors so I replaced both and rebooted the ECU and wham gone. I suggest replacing them both at the same time. They are one and the same sensors, same part number everything and I believe they are about $65 ea at Autozone or atleast something close to that amount.

I'm not too sure but I think this might have something to do with your gas cap. I'll have to do a little more research but it might correct it by either screwing on your gas cap a few more turns to make sure its all the way on, or the gas cap is worn out and needs replacement. I could be wrong though.... It just seems awfully familiar.

No, I think it has more to do with the expansion and gas, like if you don't have it properly vented when you fill up it will overflow. I'm not real sure how that whole thing works as these days there are so many sensors and electronic components so many things could go wrong.

But I remember my wife's van had a code and we had it checked and it said something about a cataylst. Only thing I did was to make sure I closed the gas cap and kept turning a couple times around to ensure a good seal and it went away.

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

ill definitely give it a try, if not, a close friend said the o2 sensors in the front and back of cat might be bad, or to clean out the cat..............also, wut u said about gas and stuff, my friend said to use one of the gas enricher from lets say Lucas and that might fix the problem

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

I think that the gas cap error code has to do with the evaporative system I think... not sure, and for $20 it's worth a try.

Check out this site for info on your error code, it has some solutions too.

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

the code is for a cat converter . you have 2 choices at this point . you can buy a new cat ( not cheap ) or you can get spark plug arrestors ( the ones that are the same size and thread as your o2 ) drill one out to 1/2 inch so the rear o2 will fit then thread another on top to space it out . this will trick the rear o2 into thinking the cat is working ( my cat is punched out with this done and no more cel )

cat proper way for emissions ( legal )
arrestors for cheap easy fix if you dont care about emissions ( not legal )

i promise you this is your problem and the fix ( i speak from experiance ) multiple

cleaning it out is not going to work . there is really nothing to clean ( if he means gut it ) you will have to do what i spoke of with the spark arrestors if you dont want cel on still

Yeah that Lucas stuff is pretty good, but don't use it too much like every oil change is good. That stuff that Carol Shelby endorses is good too, I think its called Z Max, bit expensive but well worth it. Its also sold with a micro lubricant for the oil. First time I used that stuff I could swear I gained more RPMs.

Yeah could be the O2 sensors I guess,, I'd replace both cause once you take one out and find out its not it. I'd say by pulling that old one out its probably bad by the time you finally get that thing removed.

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHTTTT!!!!!

The magnaflo hi flo is not that much at all. I just replaced mine this spring. If it is the CAT. Mine I knew was the CAT cause it was clogging and performance was an issue. If I remember correctly I replace my header and downpipe, the CAT and all the back from there back to stock had a fart can on it from previous owner, not a big fan of the fart can.

Anyhow once installed I was throwing a code and I remeber something being below threshold and once I replaced the O2 sensors and rebooted the ECU it went away. Hope that helps..
