dont hate me for asking but my 98 lude burns oil like none other

so when im stopped at a stop sign or light then proceed to go a huge white cloud of smoke bellows out the exhaust. i just changed her oil 2 weeks ago now shes 2q low. so she is burning it pretty quick, i added lucas oil additive to no avail. i saw something here about a seal problem that ludes have. could someone point me in the right direction?

go do a compression test then let us know what the results are, you can go rent a tester from autozone or advance.

Re: dont hate me for asking but my 98 lude burns oil like none other

Do what 1badbb6 said.

Meanwhile, there are many seals that could potentially fail. A few prelude owners have had issues with the cam seal, but to my knowledge that would cause you to leak oil outside of your block and drip on the ground, not burn it.

If its an internal seal it could be piston rings, or valve seals, or something else.

But if you go back to what 1badbb6 said to do then you would have a better idea.

Couldn't white smoke also indicate a bad head gasket? Which could lead to burning oil as well and could be your whole problem. But run a compression test like said above!

don't mean to thread jack here or anything, but when doing a compression test, how many times should you allow the engine to turn over before taking your reading?

To th OP: 2qts low in 2 weeks seems more like an oil LEAK then it does excessive burn rate. Check for spotting under the car as well as excess oil on the block. Also check and see if ur oil filter is screwed on tight. If it isn't ull leak oil everywhere. Very simple but ud be surprised. As for the compression check...I was always taught to let it turn 3 times.

it could also mean excessive time spent in vtec. i've been there.
I've had rings, cam and valve seals replaced on the stock motor. only works if you don't beat the crap out of the car.
