cylinder Misfire problem!

so my 99 SH has a CEL on and the ppl at AAMCO told me after pulling the codes that cylinder 1 & 2 is misfired. I am debating on taking the car to diagnose it so they could tell me how to fix it and/or what part to replace. Anybody here have this problem before on their car? The car is running rich so I am getting bad gas mileage because of the misfire, does that mean the fuel injectors are bad or could it be something else? I rather have one of you guys telling me the solution than wasting 90 bucks for an answer?? plzzzz help!!!

Re: cylinder Misfire problem!

you need to pull the plugs first of and check there condition . if you been driving with a missfire id be willing to bet the plugs are trashed . its gonna smell like gas when there is unburnt fuel passing through your motor . once you get plugs you need to check for spark . could be as simple as plugs wires a cap and button .

Re: cylinder Misfire problem!

well I recently replaced my spark plugs and yes they were trashed and I also checked the cap and the rotors inside and they seem fine. So what else could it be???

yeah I was looking thru your thread and did you ever fixed the problem? it seems like quit alot of ppl on pz have the same problem but none of them ever had complete solution. I guess taking car to diagnose it will tell me exactly the problem is, hopefully...

Re: cylinder Misfire problem!

Do you even know where to start? i think we both have the same problem and my guess is perhaps that the fuel injectors are bad. Probably to the point where you have to get new ones but what the hell do I know, thats just my guess

Re: cylinder Misfire problem!

i had this problem... i replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, a new distributor and cap and rotor... cost a bit of money.. but my 99 lude and getting old anyways... it would be a good maintenance to just replace them... my cel light doesnt come on anymore... but then it came on for another code.. p0401.. i fixed that one too...

Re: cylinder Misfire problem!

yea i did all that. didn't do anything for me. i think you're right DJANUBIS. i'm going to have my mechanic take a look at it and see what the dilio is. i think the first thing i'm going to do is have a compression test done because my #2 cylinder is misfiring. from what i've been told, my problem might be a bad piston ring and if it is, a compression test will tell you. if not, i'm going to look into the injectors, egr valve, and a valve adjustment. not exactly in that order though. i'll keep you posted on here.

Re: cylinder Misfire problem!

There are write-ups on here about compression tests, how to do them and stuff. And the problem with finding a misfire is its almost impossible to tell whats going on with it unless it happens while you have a scan tool hooked up to the car, and can monitor whats going on with all the sensors at the time of the misfire.
