I need a good battery.

So I've noticed that when I'm driving, and i turn the volume knob up a bit last night, it seems like the climate control lights turn off then comes back on after about 5 seconds. On top of that, sometimes my car takes about 6 or so cranks to ignite the engine, and sometimes when I crank it, its not the normal cranking sound but a softer one and it wont start, then i wait a couple seconds and crank it again, it cranks with a weird cranking noise then suddenly starts stuttering a bit and starts.

I also enjoy listening to my music (have an aftermarket pioneer deck, with all around pioneer speakers) while my car is off sometimes at lengths at 30 minutes, but I would like to feel secure about it all and especially listen to music at the 1 hour range at most when my cars off.

So, to this conclusion, I would like to know what battery's do you guys think is appropriate for me, I've looking at the optima battery's but its real expensive, are there any that are cheaper that can match or almost match optimas.

Re: I need a good battery.

sounds like a bad altenator or weak battery. the first can cause the second. go to your local pepboys, autozone or orilleys and have them tested. unless you have a massive system or other electronic upgrades, there's no reason for an optima battery. OEM honda should be more than enough

Re: I need a good battery.

^ could be the case, but if alternator is good, get a optima yellow top, it will also last you much more longer than other batteries such as diehard, interstate, ac delco.

i am currently using a yellow top and it is about 7 years old, and i expect 5 more years out of it

Re: I need a good battery.

If it is the battery, I run Interstate in my car and lawn mower. It may cost a bit more, but they've been around for many years and have a good name, much like Wix Filters or NGK plug wires.

No. You're thinking Odyssey.

And Optima YellowTop batteries are a good idea for ANY vehicle.

Last, I personally dislike Interstate batteries. I've never had any good experiences with their longevity.

Re: I need a good battery.

if u want a good battery, go with the optima brand. u want power for music and electronics...go for yellow. if u want power dedicated for your engine.....go with red

but regardless of color, optimas are great batteries

Re: I need a good battery.

XS Power and Stinger are the best I have used. I am using Kinetics in my F250 but the Stinger batteries I have in my other vehicles are far better.

The Stinger Batts are on the expensive side so you don't have stinker shock. The XS Power and Stinger batts. are the same basic battery. You can usually find the XS a little cheaper than the Stinger.

Optima I have not been impressed with. Seen to many cells over the years go bad on them. They have not kept up with the new companies battery technology. They rely on their name now to sell batteries.IMO

Everyone is going to have their fav. battery if they have several different types or brands.

I have an Optima yellow top and I love it. never a slow crank in the winter and always works great bumpin my 2 12" J L Audio subs. I still dont know about playing tunes for an hour with the car off, never tried it, but if you do that long enough with any battery, it will go dead. OPTIMA is the way to go!!

THIS ^^^

Ask any dealer, any honest dealer, how many warranty returns they have to do with Optima vs almost any other brand; be it car audio or not.

Alright Mrs. Toretto

In all seriousness though, I've run three different Optima Yellow Top batteries, and the only problem I had was after I swapped the motor in my S14... and kinda shorted the charging post on the alternator.

...It made for an interesting story at the time. Regardless, I don't know if I just didn't have the car(s) long enough to have a bad experience or not, so take my info with a grain of salt.

Re: I need a good battery.

I've stumbled onto a battery called Shuriken, but i noticed the amps and some stuff im not familiar with, heres the link - SHURiKEN SK-BT35 (skbt35) - Batteries and Battery Isolators - Sonic Electronix . Are batteries universal or do they all have sizes too? Also is the shuriken above any good, I think cars need certain about of amps or something like that. fill me in about those guys and girls.

Check the belt to the alternator make sure its snug. Get an volt/ ohm meter and test the battery to see what the voltage is not running should be really close to 12 or a little more like 12.2 V. Now start the car and test the battery again now with the alternator charging the battery it should read like 13.8 to 14 volts or so. If your low 12's then the battery is not getting charged and your alternator is on its way out. But you said something about starting too I just recently replaced my starter I noticed it was the original starter and it had 160K miles on it, it did its job (the brushes were out, gone, kaput) Anyhow seems your battery is not charging sounds like either poor ground or poor connection on the terminals from corrosion or your alternator is on its way out.
