Should I get my car tuned?

I bought my car completley stock last year and have done some minor mods to it. I have cold air intake, Headers, high flow car, cat back exhaust, and skunk2 intake manifold. I know the manifold is supposed to give a pretty decent sized performance boost but all i can tell is a different in the intake sound. Do i need to tune it to get full performance out of everything? I always thought i should just cause my car still thinks all my parts are stock and by tuning it, it will be set up for performance. You guys know more than i do just let me know. Thanks.

Re: Should I get my car tuned?

personally, i think you have enough mods to justify getting tuned, especially that S2IM. the only thing i would look into before getting tuned would be a throttle body tho, port matched to the IM.

Re: Should I get my car tuned?

well if you KNOW you have more mods on your to-do list, such as TB, cams/gears, valvetrain, etc... then i'd wait.

but if you know your gonna stay w/ the current mods for awhile, then i'd tune her.

Re: Should I get my car tuned?

Yeah if u plan on doing mods anytime soon I'd wait (if u get cams and a TB etc. u r gonna want to tune it again)

If it's gonna be a while before u do anything to it then I would go ahead and get it tuned so it'll be at it's full potential and it'll make ur next tuning session cheaper since they will just have to tweak it instead of starting from scratch

Re: Should I get my car tuned?

This is sort of relative and sorry to sort of hijack a thread. I'm planning on buying a prelude soon, when a good one that fits my criteria comes up that is. When I pick up the car I want to bring the engine back up to scratch, to the 200bhp mark, I think 10+ years of driving will mean a fair few horse have escaped. I'd also be planning on putting a few mods on...

Larger throttle body
AEM Intake
Inlet Manifold
DC2 Exhaust mani
sports cat & cat-back exhaust

Those would be my initial mods to bolt on but what I'm asking that even with a tune, is it REALLY going to make much of a difference to jusity spending that amount of cash on it?

Re: Should I get my car tuned?

First of all... WTF @ Threadjack.

Secondly. Larger TB, yes, make sure to portmatch. AEM V2 Intake can't be beat, so good choice. Intake manifold? Skunk 2? Sounds good. DC2 Exhaust manifold has me confused. Are you talking about DC sports? If so, stay away, go with something that will actually give you gains, like a HyTech/RMF/SMSP/Bisi header, and make sure you do the collector mod. As for an exhaust system, just go with what you like.

Re: Should I get my car tuned?

dude dont tune it if you just have bolt ons, it will just be a waste, only tune it if you get a upgrade in cams or a turbo kit put on it, those are the only reasonable things that you should do, i have a similar set up as you do and it does make a difference
