Icon14 opinion on motor swap

well guys as some of you may know my car hasnt been on the street due to finacial issues. but thats taken care of and its getting ready to come back out with minor bolt ons and mods.

but the next step im saving up for is another motor to build and work on. one that wont make me go broke, and i can later on swap into maybe by next spring.

my idea is to go boost, but i still cant make up my mind on wheter to go h22a or h23a

which one do you guys suggest better for the 5th gen prelude, and going down the boost route?

i know some info about both motors but just cant make up my mind on which one to get. i dont want like a super race motor just the most i can get out of it.

Re: opinion on motor swap

h22 more horsepower less torque , h23 less horsepower higher torque , go for the h22 ur gonna have torque issues regardless if ur gonna boost high, ur gonna have traction problems so using the h23 isnt necessary

Re: opinion on motor swap

I'd go H23 ive heard horror stories with boost and vtec could have been tuner error but cant be sure. I can be sure though that a built H23 would throw alot more "dependable" power down assuming u build it right for boost...........and u get a lil more Tq than the h22 rember TQ makes u quick HP makes u fast!!!

Re: opinion on motor swap

Id go with a boosted H23 It's rare to see one and a Tq monster. Iv'e heard horror stories about vtec+boost could have been tuner error but im not sure its just what i have heard off of the forums. U get a lil extra displacement and TQ with the h23 and if u build it right for the application the engine is SICKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!! but more HP with the H22

remember though TQ makes u quick HP makes u fast! think of what u want more and go from there

Re: opinion on motor swap

H23A gets its increased displacement from having a longer stroke (95mm vs 90.7mm). I would opt for the H22A for boost as you won't be missing the displacement and a shorter stroke is more reliable for da bewts.

Re: opinion on motor swap

I think you should go h22, simply because it would be cheaper ( I think... ) With the h23, there isn't as much aftermarket support, so that means alot of custom work. Custom = cash. Yes, even if you go decent amount of boost, and have to sleeve the engine. You said you are building it, so I'm assuming you are going to do as much of the work as possible without a machine shop.

How do you post, then 4 minutes later, post again, saying the same opinion, but in different words? Also, both engines are vtec, and furthermore, if your tuner isn't an effing shortbus; he will be able to tune for vtec with absolutely no problems.

Re: opinion on motor swap

lol thanks for the info and opinions and no g23 is out fo the question thats too custom but i wish i could do it.... im still not convinced enough tho to go too much to either way. i know hp is anything without torque so i understand the h23a. but also h22a is a lil more cheaper to get then h23a.... idk still lol

Re: opinion on motor swap

x2 on the G23. But thats only if ur mechanicaly enclined. The hardest part is the G23 water pump and the side engine mount. The rest is a peice of cake.

Look at the bright side of the G23:

Iron sleeves
8.8:1 comp ratio
