Re: A little paranoid right now

i dont have an auto, but i think what everyone says is the worst for them is using the triptronic shift like its a 5 speed.... i realy doubt what you did is that bad for it...did it gear down and make a weird noise when you went full throttle? its normal for it to gear down when you do something like that but unless it makes a weird noise i wouldnt worry to much. Many suggest getting a tranny fluid cooler and possibly changing your tranny fluid some very low mileage. Just look around some of the sticky's and do some searching. You will more than likely get some more informative helpfull post after mine.

Spirited driving in an auto is just asking for failure.

That, sir, is a false statement. Try driving any prelude up the Blueridge Parkway in North Carolina....Thats what I call driving. Yes, the manual transmissions are better, but honestly chill out with condemning the auto. Some places it makes more sense(like here in Atlanta or on hills, and when thats all you can find when shopping for a lude)...and if you don't use your tiptronic like an F1 driver, and don't wait to shift until 5 or 6k RPM, then tiptronic is not that bad for the transmission. The only bad reputation that the tiptronic gets, like I said, is from those who drive it aggressively every time they drive it. Manual transmissions, of course, can take a lot more than a auto can, and that is because they are built for those who enjoy driving a little harder. Now, That isn't to say that the manual transmissions are rhinos(metaphorically speaking). People wonder why they go through multiple clutches and other components of the manual quickly....and that's because contrary to popular belief, the manuals weren't built for going hard as they can go all the time.(yes I said they are more durable, but they are far from invincible.) So, your definition of the phrase spirited driving is two very different things in a manual vs. an auto.

I'm just saying that autos tend to fail fairly often. Especially when someone has been driving their car hard. I wasn't comparing manual to auto. The auto is notoriously weak. That is a fact, for the most part. Of course there are exceptions, but generally speaking, autos fail a lot.

Re: A little paranoid right now

You'll be ok. I've done that to my Lude when I was AUTO and it's alright. H22 are meant to get a beat down, but as far as the AUTO tranny then that i'd go a little easy on.
Be lucky ur AUTO tranny wasnt like mine. My crank shaft and bolt were both grinded to near nothing. It was so bad that when I gased the car it would hit near 3000-4000RPM jus to slowly get the car rolling.

I had a AUTO and I must say that I did enjoy the "lazyness" of not having to clutch n pick up the gears like a manual can. But nontheless I do miss my AUTO at times. Basically the AUTO is meant for normal driving with a hint of wanting to get that power to push hard although the manual kicks a$$ for daily use as well as pulling a FnF at any given moment!!!

More or less to me a AUTO is like a younger brother while a 5spd is like the older bro.

An auto you will enjoy n have fun with it til it last bc they are known to go sooner or later, but eventually you'll wanna upgrade to a 5spd bc it's a whole diff level!!!

The link under my sig shows my AUTO>5SPD and that i'll admit that I "love" my AUTO...but I "LOVE" my 5spd!!!

Yea ha thats what I was saying. I think the ones you hear about failing are the ones that have been abused...either by a previous owner or the current owner. It can take an occasional ricer burn, but yea usually you want to be relatively calm with them.

Re: A little paranoid right now

Yeah I won't be going 5spd anytime soon. Auto is a better option for me at the moment.

Re: A little paranoid right now

im 50/50 on the auto. i bought mine when i lived in atlanta and was driving around town a lot (3000miles a month... yea) but i drive the horsepiss out of mine. i had it for about 20k miles and a solanoid (sp?) went out and it was still covered so honda replaced the whole tranny instead of just the solanoid. that was at 75kmiles. now i have 135k miles and ive drag raced (on a track) autox'ed and drive like a general asshole on public streets (cant help it) and it is still A LOT of fun. i redline it in sometimes, downshift to stop, and ALWAYS drive in manual mode. and ive had no issues with it in almost 70k miles. however, i dont care if it breaks, b/c i WANT to do a 5spd swap. so i say sequential sportshift tranny, fun to drive, and doesnt suck balls while sittin on 75, 85, or 285 at 5pm.
