Blown engine...

Hey everyone, im new to the site but basically my engine had some rod knocking , by the time i got it home it was far worse and i dont really know what to do. My friends dad (a mechanic) checked it out and told me i can either get a new car or put some money into this one.

Any opinions or advice would be taken into consideration.Ideas on what to do are most welcome. Bought the 99 prelude(base model) in january, got a new tranny couple months after so im not really looking to just get rid of it so suddenly.

Re: Blown engine...

I see you're in NY!!! I'd strongly suggest talking to BUSTR!!! Search for him on our friends list!!! He's done most if not all of our tranny and/or motor swaps!!!

Work something out and you can both find a working motor and he can swap it for you for a lot better price then a shop!!! GUARANTEED!!!

Click my link under my sig to see what he did to my car!!!

Re: Blown engine...

If you try to sell the car with a blown engine, you won't get more than $1500 for it if you're LUCKY. Then you'll have to pay for a new car too.

If you buy a brand new motor and tranny combo..$800-$1300 depending.

If you're just gonna fix what's wrong, I'd say $400-$700.

Re: Blown engine...

i would rip apart the block and get an honest assessment on rebuilding it. rod knocking might need a new rod and crank at least, (if the piston didnt get messed up and screw up the cylinder wall in the block) but if you have it apart might as well build it with some acl bearings, pistons (high compression if your N/A), arp rod bolts and head studs. it would be BEASTLY! Or get a shortblock and rebuild it and just use your old head and everything. It wouldnt be THAT hard todo.

I'm thinking that he's on a budget. A monster build might not be in the cards for him at the moment, lol!

Just swap the engine dude. Problem solved. Think JDM.

Re: Blown engine...

H22A. Doesn't matter if it's OBD-I or OBD-II, if you plan on re-using parts from your old engine (i.e. Intake manifold, distributor, etc.). Or you could find an H22A4 (the same motor you have), and directly swap it in.
