Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

So, i guess i have to replace the rear main seal here sometime soon, it's a drippin still after i replaced the oil-cooler o-ring, and just where the tranny meets the motor and out of that small vent hole on the bottom.... SOOO, while I'm it mine as well do the throw out bearing, clutch and a light weight flywheel. What does everyone recommend for a good clutch and flywheel? Savin big money on labor by doing it myself with my buddy at the Ford Dealership so I can afford the parts. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Mainly this is going to be my daily driver car, but i want to be able to have a little fun now and then too, and last a decent amount of time... saw some sets on ebay for an Exedy clutch and lightweight fidanza flywheel for like $275... thats cheap but i dunno who exedy is.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Exedy is great. They make OEM clutches for Honda. I have the Exedy Stage 1 (i.e. OEM) clutch and Fidanza 8lb flywheel, and I loved it. I got mine for about $325 and I thought that was cheap! You should snatch that up as long as it's a reputable seller.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Well, thats better than I thought, I took a look at their website too, and also F1's site... but ive seen mixed reviews on the F1 stuff, but nothing but good about Exedy. Here is the link to the auction, lemme know what you think... i guess the stage 1 is above oem?

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Exedy Stage 1 is OEM.

Personally, I would stay away from the F1 stuff.

Gripforce is legit. That's where I bought my clutch/flywheel from. You should go for it, you won't be disappointed!

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

I got a stage 2 competition clutch, and 8lb fidanza ligthweigth flywheel 4 like 360 I think. The flywheel dident really make a difference bt the clutch kinda clamps on hard, cars my dd and I think it does ok in traffic.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

O, now i see there is a stage 1 in their OEM line, and a stage 1 in their race line of clutches... a little more $$$ too, about $100 more with the flywheel.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

I saw the stage 2, but don't think i need anything that major, i emailed g-force and asked what the set would be on the stage 1 race clutch kit and the fidanza flywheel, i think that will be a happy medium.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

You'll be fine with the Stage 1 OEM. It's good for about 240 ft/lbs torque.

Also...a lighter flywheel makes a huge difference.

How a lightweight flywheel works

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Thats a good link, I kinda figured the less rotational mass/weight would = better acceleration (used to working on bikes, same is true for a chain and sprocket change), some good info on what a dyno would tell you too... me + math after a long day at work = headache... I need another beer!

Ya, I'm waiting to get a price on the Exedy stage 1 race and fidanza flywheel from grip-force, then i'll decide between that clutch or the oem clutch from Exedy... I gotta stick with Fidanza on the flywheel, Had them in my other cars.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Well i got a price of about $400 for the stage one and the 8lb fidanza, now trying to decide if its worth the $100 difference in price to go with the stage 1 over just their OE replacement... like I said, not going to mod the car any more than it is, maybe an exhaust down the road, but thats about it.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Stick to the Exedy OE replacement clutch and the fidanza 8lb, buy it from gripfoce on ebay....my car is modded alot and that clutch works fine for me...dont waste the extra cash for a stage 1 or stage 2 unless you plan on building your motor, or going forced induction

EDIT::: and dont listen to the guys who said the flywheel didnt make a difference.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Ya, that sounds like the best way to go, i can't rationalize the extra $$ for a race clutch when I don't really need one... Thanks all for the advice. Can't wait to get this seal replaced so it'll stop dripping and this clutch/flywheel in.

Re: Best Clutch/Light Flywheel for the money?

Ya, its taking some restraint not to go big, but I didn't buy this car to make it fast or faster, just as a DD. The CBR and my 88 Camaro I am working on take care of that fix for me, just had to have something fun to drive daily and not have to fix a lot. Ironically since I bought it on Saturday I've already replaced the oil cooler o-ring, and will now be tearing out the tranny to do the main seal, clutch, and flywheel... Guess it never ends.
