engine swap story and crank sensor question

hey guys.. hows it going? my story:

ok so i bought a complete jdm h22 for $700 (30k so clean) and replaced the blown usdm h22 i once had.. it was about a 3 week process and was planned for success.. we switched the usdm cams over to the jdm for more power, put the usdm ntake manifold on because the jdm one was a little different and feared that it wouldn't pass smog (i live in sacramento, ca the states road inforcement is so strict here), put the usdm oil pump on the jdm setup was weird it just wouldn't work.. i had to buy a new key from the manu (black and red for reprogramming), starter unit, passenger side cv axle, got a stage 2 racing clutch (F1 nothing special), flywheel bolts (the old ones were stripped), heater hose, pcv valve, and all the tune-up reqs. we got the usdm out and got the jdm in with everything bolted and ready to go.. i then had the lude towed to a friends shop for the key programming. it was successful and turned the key hoping for a clean start but all we got was turning over so we checked to see if it was getting any fire.. no SPARK?! eff me sideways.. we checked the pgm tester and no codes came up except a crank sensor code.. the excitement was killed right away.. me and my friend were so bummed out. so i have a question before i go out and spend $130 on a new sensor.. eff me right?

crank sensor question:

a friend said we could bypass the crank sensor failure by giving it a custom ground to force it to turn over but im worried that it could blow my ecu or i could hit a bump and it would come apart then im sitting on the roadside dead or SOMETHING.. is this possible has anyone done such a thing?

Re: engine swap story and crank sensor question

Hmm, not sure why the usdm oil pump would not hook up, because it has the 2 connectors for the crk and tdc sensors. I had a similar problem as you with my setup. I got a jdm h23a vtec motor and we forgot to switch over the usdm oil pump, so we had to get a universal obd1 distributer and wired the 2 sensors to the dizzy.

Re: engine swap story and crank sensor question

what you friend is saying to do won't work...

you need a constant signal.. like a pattern.. because you a crank positioning sensor creates a wave pattern, which means its sends a signal according to the speed of the crank shaft and/ or rpm.

go ahead and buy one, if doesn't work you can always return it , as long as you don't get it dirty.
