P0170 & P0171 - O2 sensor(s)?

Base model, 1997 with 118,000 miles on the odometer. The car previously threw the CEL of P0420. On more than one occasion (3-4 times). After a recent head gasket job & valve lash adjustment was done the CEL P0420 has yet to come back. Today for the first time ever the CELs of P0170 & P0171. Chilton lists them respectively as Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank No 1) and System Too Lean (Bank No 1). I did a tune-up with new ignition coil, wires, cap and rotor, and EGR & IAC cleaning roughly 6 months ago. I did not replace either sensor at that time. My question is are both the O2 sensors only accessible from underneath the car? From the diagrams in Chilton's it looks as though the are. Should I replace the front or rear one, or both? Will this sensor be a good choice, it is Denso?

just the front. but if your trying to pass smog in CA with denso..you wont..it will fail..i know because i tried and failed lol......the back sensor dont matter imo.....i have a honda one in front and a denso in back..

idk if your trying to do this for smog..or just to get the cel off.

Smog is not the issue at all. To the best of my knowledge the sh*tty state of Alabama has no emission controls or regulations. Just want to fix the CELs. So just a new front O2 sensor should fix the P0170 & P0171? And where exactly is it? Underneath in front of the CAT?

Re: P0170 & P0171 - O2 sensor(s)?

Both should be accessible. IIRC the 2nd one you will have to remove the cat heat shield to get to it. I can't remember exactly as I only replaced the front one, because that was the only code I was throwin. My best advice would be to spray that mofokka with some pb blaster or liquid wrench when you park it for the night the day before you plan to do the work. Get a cheater bar and yank on it. it can be a pita, but not impossible by any stretch of the imagination. 1 hour job max, unless you really have no fukkin clue what you're doin

The front oxygen sensor is the only one that I am replacing. I planned on hitting it several times with PB blaster. At least 1-2 days consecutively before the job. Cheater bar you say. H*ll yes for more mechanical advantage / leverage.
