JDM H23A Information Request

I hydrolocked my H22A4 yesterday, and don't want to spend forever looking for a short or long block as I've been without my car too much already (just rebuilt the bottom end about 3-4 weeks ago).

I've come across the JDM H23A DOHC VTEC (bluetop), and a shop claims it'll be a direct swap in my 2000 Prelude (base). Basically, will it be a direct swap? Will I have any ECU compatibility issues? What are the pros and cons for this engine? Does anyone have actual specs for this engine (they seem to vary from site to site)?

In relation, I have considered purchasing from JDM Engine Depot in NJ, as I can pick up the engine. I have searched and seen mixed reviews, is it worth it to buy from them? Any other shops within the NY/NJ/PA area worth looking into?

Re: JDM H23A Information Request

If I were you, I would get in contact with Bustr.

As far as the bluetop goes... It's a little more torquey, though I think it puts out the same amount of power as the H22A4. It should be a pretty straightforward swap considering you have a Base. Also, the redline on the bluetop is lower (6800 I believe) than the redline on the H22 (7200). As far as ECU's go, your best bet will be to get the appropriate ECU for the bluetop, or get a chipped P28/P72 and get it tuned.

I'll let someone with a little more experience on this topic chime in. I know GotULukn recently had this done (via Bustr). There are probably a few others as well.

JDM H23A Vtec Blue Top Mystery Motor, True Facts, Questions? - Honda-Tech

If you are going to run an H23A choose a p28 ecu with a basemap, some run a P13. All your bolt on parts are interchangable. I bought my Blue Top from Engine Depot ** Make sure you do a detail inspection of the motor before you purchase it** i.e. sensors, remove the valve cover, and oil pan to include other things.

There are a couple people running the motor on this site BUSTR is one of the guru's.
