Power Steering Pipe Problem

Hi all, dont know if anyone has had the same problem as me but i wa on holiday last week and where the return pipe for the power steering fluid runs into the front bumper then up to the reservoir had cause the pipe to get corroded.

To cut a long story short it got hit by a stone (i think) and split causing fluid to p*ss out everywhere and no power steering.

I managed to get the car home by stopping and topping fluid up every so often (170 mile trip) and then i set about trying to repair the leak.

Everyone i spoke to said it couldnt be repaired cos of pressure etc etc but this is NOT the pressurised hose from the pump, its just a return joing to the reservoir with rubber anyway.

So basically ive cut out the rotten metal pipe and replaced it with a piece of reinforced rubber high pressure hose held in place with jubilee clips and so far so good, power steering works a treat and NO MORE LEAKS :)

I realise this might not be interesting to anyone but i am pleased i managed to repair the p\s without a costly bill and thought i would post up because i cant be the only person in the world that this has happened to :)

If anyone wants to see the fix in place i can get some pics up.

Cheers.

Re: Power Steering Pipe Problem

Wait, you *managed* to get home with the p/s not working?

There's a lot of guys on here that take the p/s out and drive like that every day lol.

But I feel ya, I don't like driving without p/s either, too much of a pain in the ass. Glad you got your problem taken care of, but I would look around for a more permanent solution, maybe find some tubing you can use to replace it with.

Re: Power Steering Pipe Problem

I know i could have driven with no fluid in the P\S but by "managed" i mean, got home without draining all the fluid and risking killing the pump! I guess i didnt write it too clearly.
