Icon5 sensor mystery!!!!!!!!!

hello guys..i need help with a problem. i ve been trying to get my car to pass emissions but some sensors never get ready to be tested. i have a 97 and my car has no engine light on and no codes but the EGR, EVAP, O2 SENSOR, AND CATALYST sensor never get ready to be tested...all mechanics tell me is to drive the car till they get ready but i ve already driven it for over 3000 miles and still nothing...therefore something has to be wrong but i cant figure out what it is to fix it..any help appreciate it..thank in advance.

Re: sensor mystery!!!!!!!!!

i answered this already on ur other thread

"this happened to me too when i put a new cat and o2 sensors but i have a sheet that tells you what turns em on...i'll post it in a bit when i get it...but it took me a long a$$ time to, to get it to turn on. i drove it for days and then they finally turned on...but like i said i'll get dat sheet for ya..."

same thing happened to me.. had to drive for the longest time before it turned on..and dam i havent found the paper that helped it, but i'll look for it...also if you dont have the OEM o2 front sensor i can almost guarantee you wont pass but this was in CA(but if you aint from CA idk whats the emission stuff there) so yea..

Re: sensor mystery!!!!!!!!!

i know thats what i mean..if its not the oem honda one it will not pass and you will get a sensor code eventually..i had a denso one and that turned the engine light off also (so the was no CEL or codes or anything)and it also turned on (the light thingy that they check to see if its ready to smog and it turned on also) after likke a thousand miles of driving though...so i get it smogged and it failed miserably. the results from the smog were "gross poluter" and thats bad. and i got a "slow response" code for the sensor shortly after, so i get a honda sensor for like $200 put it in..and the sensor light for smog turns on way faster than the denso one and it passed the smog..so yea...i went through the same exact thing trust me....read my posts from a while back i was wondering the same thing until i fixed the o2 etc and the cat has alot to do with passing smog......

and the sensor is the front sensor(before cat) that should be the honda one if not it will most likely fail. and i have a denso one after/on cat..the back sensor doesn't matter but the front one does......

if you have any questions let me know..i can help you out....took me 2 months to get mine to pass smog..i was bein lazy though lol....

Re: sensor mystery!!!!!!!!!

also if you have the smog paper they gave u post it here...i'll be able to tell you what you might need to get it to pass

oh and heres what you can do to get it "ready"

1. As soon as the engine starts, idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defrost on. (OBDII checks oxygen sensor heater circuits, air pump and EVAP purge.)

2. Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle. (OBDII checks for ignition misfire, fuel trim and canister purge. )

3. Hold at a steady state speed of 55 mph for three minutes. (OBDII monitors EGR, air pump, O2 sensors and canister purge. )

4. Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch. (OBDII checks EGR and purge functions.)

5. Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at half throttle. (OBDII checks misfire, fuel trim and purge again.)

6. Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes. (OBDII monitors catalytic converter efficiency, misfire, EGR, fuel trim, oxygen sensors and purge functions.)

7. Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking. (OBDII makes a final check of EGR and canister purge.)

you might have to repeat this ALOT...took me a long time..but this got all my lil lights on the obd2 scanner to turn on and smog ready.
good luck

Re: sensor mystery!!!!!!!!!

How realistic is holding it steady at 50mph for five minutes? You'd need a pretty decent stretch of road.
