Car wont crank/start up. Pretty sure its starter but help if you can plz.

Hello, please don't flame or say search because i did, still am, and i was reading this thread

The FINAL "problem starting engine" thread!!!!!

and my battery is fine so i know it isn't that. so i'm almost positive its the starter. So Im trying to figure out what it can be so i wont waste money on a starter in case it isn't. but im not 100% sure what it is.

but this what happened, i went to the gas station.....filled up my tank and tried starting the car. but nothing happened so i turned the key to I or II cant really remember but like 2 seconds later it cranked like twice and i was like wtf? so i tried turning it on again a few seconds later and it started fine. but the next day(which is today btw) the engine dont crank at all. any help?

heres what it also says on the starter from that thread

"Step 2: Check the starter!
If the starter isn't working properly, it's not gonna start your engine, duhh. Plus that's why it's CALLED a starter. See kids, working on a car is pretty self-explanatory aint it??
To check the starter;
-Unplug the 4pin connector on the ignition coil, and try to start the engine like normal. If the starter is cranking the engine like normal, than you know it's good.
But if the starter either ISN'T cranking, or is cranking very slowly, you know something isn't right. Check the ground cable and other wires on the starter, and replace if necessary.
You can also have the starter tested at any auto parts store."

so is it possible the starter works still but won't crank the engine?
or since the engine doesn't crank at all it has to be the starter?

Re: Car wont crank/start up. Starter maybe?

how do you know your battery is fine? did you hold a volt meter on the battery and try to have someone start it to see if the volts drop drastically? you can always take the starter out and take it to autozone or advance and have them check it.

My thinking exactly. If he read my post like he said, he'd know that you can't KNOW if your battery is good unless you test it. Even a brand new battery off the shelf could be bad. And the little sight glasses, the "built in hydrometers" on batteries, ain't worth diddly ish.

Ignition switch..maybe. There was a recall on the ignition switch for 5th gen ludes i forget which years though but go to the local honda dealer with ur vin number and they will tell u if the switch was done already or not..My recall was done but my switch is going again so i stopped leaving keys hanging on my keychain.

Re: Car wont crank/start up. Starter maybe?

well yea i rechecked battery and tried a diff one and still didnt crank.. but the starter makes a one clicking sound when the key is turned but nothing happens...also you know inside the car how the green light on the CC or say the foglight switch. those turn off as i try to turn the key but when i put it back to II they go back on...i'll put a vid up so you can see what i mean..

but the clicking is exactly like this
im gonna try and clean the terminals to see if it works but i dont think it is that..

Re: Car wont crank/start up. Starter maybe?

okay found out it was the starter..i took it out and tested it myself and it wouldn't spin. so i also took it to autozone and it was no good...now do i put the starter back on till i get the new one or can i leave it off? since there a hole and i can see the flywheel. just wondering if it can mess up bein open like that.....
now im off to buy a new starter yay me right? lol
btw this my first time actually doing stuff like this and its actually pretty easy and im saving some money too =D amazing what these forums and internet can teach..

Re: Car wont crank/start up. Starter maybe?

Oh shiz, I didn't know it was making a click sound. A single click sound or a bang is pretty much the starter. Not necessarily, but in my experience it usually is.

And you'll be fine leaving the starter off, the flywheel on most cars isn't exactly sealed away from water and such, and the engine and trans have their own seals.

Re: Car wont crank/start up. Starter maybe?

Most starters are remanned, but be careful with them. My buddy got one for his trans am and the starter gear housing basically flew off. I figured it was prolly too close to the flywheel and got torn off, but the piece and old starter didn't have any marks on them indicating such damage, so I guess the starter was just a piece of trash. Luckily it was under warranty.
