IS THIS A FAIR TRADE?

im looking to trade my 1999 prelude auto for a 1990 300zx.
what are the pros and cons of the 300zx and should i go through with the trade?
why or why not?

my prelude has 200,000km and the 300zx has 90,000 on the engine. not too sure about the body.

Re: IS THIS A FAIR TRADE?

you are my 500 post, congrats:

and engine wise.. I would say go for it. because I do love nissan and RWD. I would suggest get on 300xz forums and just ask there as well. I got offered a slammed integra with a gsr swap and it was clean but i love my prelude wayyy to dam much, its totally up to you. but since the 300 has 90k I would say a definite good deal.

Re: IS THIS A FAIR TRADE?

I love Z32's.. It's a fair trade if the engine does rly have 90k and it's clean.. If it's not turbo'd u should do that lol

Re: IS THIS A FAIR TRADE?

The only downside is that the 90 300zx had madd problems, many of which were fixed as Nissan realized them, making the later years of the 300zx more desirable. Also, you will be going from a car with Airbags for both the driver and passenger to a car that doesn't even have a driver side airbag (the driver didn't become standard until 92 I don't think, but down quote me on that.) Also, the 300zx engine bay is literally a cluster****. There is literally NO room in that bay and working on it almost always requires removal of the engine, as well as having to shoehorn it back in when you put it in lol. That can lead to higher costs of labor if you don't do your own work. Also, it all depends on if the car is the TT 300zx. I have seen TT 300zx's go for upwards of 16k. So I'm going to assume its NA. Which isn't bad, it just REALLY feels like it needs a little more oomph. Also, the 2+2's are a joke. Those backseats are about as useless as the 4th gen backseats. It was simply a reason for Nissan to make the car about 16" (just a guesstimate lol) longer, heavier, and IMO uglier. I would also ask if the car received the maintenance it was supposed to at 60k miles (timing belt, etc etc). But 300zx's are fantastic cars, I actually was on my way to buy one, when I saw a 4th gen prelude sitting with a for sale sign in someones yard and then I stopped and ended up buying it on the spot Lol. 300zx's are very fun and sporty cars, and the T Tops are the greatest thing in the world. But I've always loved my Honda's and after my teg I wasn't ready to take the leap of faith into a RWD world lol. But another thing with the 300zx that I noticed when I was doing research was that the cost of parts and maintenance is higher, but if you are willing to the pay the price, they are great. Plus, you'll have a blast with a manual transmission. You already own a prelude so you know the pros and cons of it, so now you can do your own comparison.

Sorry for the long post, but I had done a little research before I ended up buying my lude, so I figured I would post everything I can remember. Hope it helps with your decision.

X2!! Very good points in this post! If the z32 doesn't have any problems it will be a badass car!

Re: IS THIS A FAIR TRADE?

the car is awsome and my bro had one but the car is a bitch to work on especially when replacing important parts on the car, seals, belts, etc.
