Need some help with stock radio

Ok so previously I had a sony headunit that recently got stolen. So I ordered a stock headunit from a 98 prelude thinking it would work. My car is a 99 and the connectors are not the same. Is there an adapter I can buy?

Re: Need some help with stock radio

Not sure why you would want a factory radio, but it might be an issue. Do you know what speakers are in the car? The factory system is a 2 ohm system. Most aftermarkets are 4 ohm, but the high end stuff will be stable at 2 also. If you have 4 ohm speakers in the car you will not get much volume from the stock head unit and it may burn up pushing through 4 ohm speakers.

The problem with the adapters you will find is they are to help you install an after market deck on the stock harness. You will need to get that adapter and find a way to get 98 connector to plug into the unit. Your best bet is the return it for the 99 or just get an aftermarket one. This will all depend on the speakers in the car also.

Re: Need some help with stock radio

The factory system is 2 ohm and uses an amp to get the 160 watts. With 4 ohm speakers the volume of the front speakers on the factory deck would be half. The rear would be less since the amp is likely gone. You really need to get an aftermarket deck to drive those speakers.

Wait, before you go and buy a new headunit, I have a few questions.

If you had a sony headunit previously, then the harness that connects to the sony will have had to be wired into the original harness by either butt connectors or soldered.
And in that case all you have to do is wire the harness of the new OEM radio you got to the original wiring.
