Re: how much horsepower output?

First time for this month...fair effort considering we're 17 days into it.

Stock the car puts down around 100-110kW at the wheels. Those mods would net you around a 10% gain, 15% absolute max. So 8th grade mathematics tells you that you'd be putting down somewhere in the vacinity of 110-126kW at the wheels. For those who are too lazy to convert it, that's around 150-170hp.

Why'd you put more than one header on your car?

Kinda splitting hairs aren't we? lol

But yes, dbd is right. You have a 4 cyclinder car, which means you have a HEADER. V8's have HEADERS.

Just so you can talk to people without sounding like a moron.

I always refer to power at the wheels, because that's the power you can actually use. Quoting the brocure is all well and good, but in a FWD application you'll always lose somewhere around 30-40% through the drivetrain. (also if you read the post I refer to all the metric number as being at the wheels, which sorta gives it away)

I'm assuming you mean with an auto tranny. Otherwise...that's ridiculous.

brash i hate to disagree with you here cause usually i think very highly of your opinion but i disagree. i was doing research not too long ago to try and figure out just how much horsepower you lose through the drivetrain and what not. now, although it would be nice to be able to just put a percentage out there and have it cover all the way across the board that simply isnt the case. it all REALLY depends on your vehicle, and how efficient your drivetrain IS. like some cars might only lose 8-11% to where some lose closer to 30% and even then that can change by as much as 5% on two identical vehicles. now as for preludes (5spds 5th gens) the number would be more around 15-20%. a new lude has 200hp on the crank but when slapped on a dyno is only puttin down 160-170hp on the wheels. if we lost 40% of our hp our cars would only have 120hp on the wheels brand new. and if you look at that and compare to a lude with say, a JRSC on it which puts 235hp on the wheels that would be saying a prelude with a 6lb supercharger gains 115hp. not likely. so in finishing, im not tryin to slam you here but i want people to know that parasitic loss through the drivetrain depends on the vehicle and how efficiently it works.

Re: how much horsepower output?

I agree... percentages are not accurate b/c each car is different. drivetrain plays a huge factor in whp but is an individual car basis.

also... h22's do dyno in the 150s as well... seen it at plenty of dyno days at some local shops around my neck of the woods

Re: how much horsepower output?

While I hate Modified Magazine, there was a really good tech article on drivetrain losses in last month's issue. It's probably up on their website if you guys want to check it out. It's basically what Ryno said, but it just goes a lot deeper into detail and why everything works the way it does.

haha that article is what got me to researching. everything from a legit source i found said pretty much what modified said. trust me, if theres an article in modified, super streed, honda tuning, import tuner, or sometimes dsport, ive read it. i should put up a picture of the magazine stack on my sink next to my toilet.
