automatic passenger window?

I have always been wondering if it is at all possible to have the passenger window work as the driver side does. have it go down all the way automatically.

Has anyone ever done this? What would be required?

Thanks alot guys
Brad

That's an interesting thought. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Re: automatic passenger window?

Im not sure the wiring loom would allow you to do it?

Maybe you would need to get another auto switch + a relay and wire it in manually somehow? Might even need another motor \ mechanism to swap over? E.g. Get the auto window mech from a RHD car to put in the LHD passenger door?

^^same here, but if I were to guess:

The driver switch is tow stages:
1) Instantaneous operation - goes directly to window motor relay
2) Automatic - trips a timed relay which trips the window motor relay for a long enough time to roll down the window.

So, to have both windows work like this, you should need to add another driver side switch and timed relay.

Im going to read through the wiring diagrams and service manuals to see if I can find anymore info.... I've wanted to do this for a long time, but never got the motivation until now

Re: automatic passenger window?

why am I always brought up in these conversations?

LOL...

Yes, there are MAY ways to do this. Use a "timed" relay.. which is a fancy way of saying parallel a capacitor and diode across two terminals on two SPDT relay to give a "momentary" signal.

Or you could install a limiter switch at the bottom and top of the window travel to trip the relay to turn off.

or

Do it safe and do it right and install a current sensing module designed for this common application. That way you dont worry about switches burning out, irregular operation or damages to your motor/window/car.
A quick google search shows us this good write up:

How to install an one-touch electric window module?

that's what I would do anyway (I havent taken the time to look at our .pdf/wiring diagram-- I'm at work... sheesh. :p )
