Color changing gauges(when vtec enables)

im sure you guys know about this

i was wondering if its possible to do this since i have the apexi vafc2 in my car.
(got it for free btw) because you know how it changes to red when you get to vtec. im wondering if i can use the wire which is connected to the vtec solenoid wire and connect some bulbs to it some how so they light up when u hit vtec.

is it possible you think?

okay found a post from lilmsprelude

since it relies on a "solenoid" if you will... all you would have to do is use a Basic SPDT relay and parallel the sensor side to the (-) side of the coil, term 86. The other side of the coil would just get constant Battery voltage, from the stock lighting circuit, terminal 85, that is "parallel Fed to terminal 30.
Terminal 87A would feed the OEM light circuit out of VTEC and once the coil received a signal and tripped, it would turn off the stock lights and "turn on" the "Custom" lights.
where is the thing she's talkin bout at..is it the same place where the vafc is connected to?

Re: Color changing gauges(when vtec enables)

ya thats kinda cool, really would take a whole lot to do. i mean led lighting that can do multiple colors, and then just run a relay on the vtec seloniod wire coming off the ecu.

but really when you think about it i wouldnt do it. its cool for show and all but its gonna pull your attention off the road, distracting you and such.

Re: Color changing gauges(when vtec enables)

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

I promise to finally get some pictures up... I have been playing with mine to get it lit up correctly. I have done this mod, just haven't had time or the money to finish putting my interior back together. *sigh*

p.s... on a H22 head, the Vtec solenoid, and pressure switch (the one you need to tap into) is just behind and below the distributor cap.

it takes me an hour tops to do a full interior rip and clean and vaccuum everything and put back together. NO EXCUSES RENEE. As soon as I get my car running again I AM coming down to the states and you ARE doing this for me!

Re: Color changing gauges(when vtec enables)

I actually did this last year when I did the LED cluster mod. I just added an LED strip around the cluster. When VTEC hits it just has an extra glow to the whole cluster. I'll get a vid up tomorrow. That way I can film it tonight and you'll be able to see it better.
