Icon8 Can timing belt snap or shred or is off fry the ECU?

Got my timing belt done at a shop took it home 2 days later found out the belt shred. Took it back to the shop put new belt and everything the car won't they put an ls ecu in my prelude and it started right up I went to honda dealer got a 700 ecu, redkey, and programmed. My car won't start but with the LS ecu it start.

Question is did or can this timing belt issue fry my ecu???

I don't believe there is anyway for a snapped timing belt to fawk up your ECU. Did they line up your timing correctly when they did the T-Belt?

yup. the timing was good. but I heard from another forum that if the timing is off it could fry the ecu.

I just want to make sure of this to get my money back.

Why do we have 2 of basically the same thread going royal? Just asking there I know I'm new but no one needs to read similar threads with almost the same content and same questions. Also I checked a few places and was unable to find anything about the timing belt being able to mess up the ECU. It's sort of a separate system one is electronic one is mechanical. Like it was mentioned one of the techs might have had some static charge on him and touched the ECU without thinking about it. Poof there's your problem

Re: Can timing belt snap or shred or is off fry the ECU?

Yeah...seriously. It doesn't make sense whatsover that a snapped timing belt could fawk up an ECU. I don't think it's possible. Honestly I would just STOP going to this garage, first and foremost, since it seems like they have no idea WTF they are doing.

Re: Can timing belt snap or shred or is off fry the ECU?

The Honda Dealer shouldn't have to "Program" ****. They should take it off the shelf and plug it in. If they're screwing with the ECU, therein the problem may lie.

Re: Can timing belt snap or shred or is off fry the ECU?

Ummm yeah, they did. Did you actually go to the Honda Dealership yourself and get the ECU or did the shop tell you they got it from the Honda Dealer?

That's ****ing ridiculous. You need to find a new shop. This all seems pretty shady.

Re: Can timing belt snap or shred or is off fry the ECU?

Take it to a reputable shop (even if it's a decent distance away, get it towed) and see what they can do for you. Give them a call first and explain the problem. They may be able to point out the problems (i.e. what the first shop ****ed up) and fix them for you.
