Aftermarket projector/halo headlights - worth the money ?

My current headlights are scratched a lot to the point where they are a little discoloured and spoiling the look of the front of the car.

So I was after some new ones. But it seems finding stock headlights on Ebay is almost impossible (especially in mint condition). So I turned to looking at after market ones. I'm not after anything too flashy and my car is Nordic Mist so I think the clear ones will suit it better than the black ones.
I see there are many types but the ones I think suit me best are these....

Click me

But are they worth it ?
Firstly the front is plastic and not glass. So I dunno if the plastic is strong or durable etc.
Also are they watertight ? Will they survive a car wash or a rainstorm ?
Thankfully they claim to use existing bulbs and wiring which is a nice plus and makes for less fiddly work than others I've seen.

Anyone has these lights are are happy with them ? I'm in Europe so Im going to get stung on the shipping so I want to know I'm making the right move first. You guys are the best way to find out.

Re: Aftermarket projector/halo headlights - worth the money ?

You say being plastic is a drawback...as far as I'm aware all 5g Prelude headlights are plastic. Well put it this way...if you can find me glass headlights for a 5g I will buy them - regardless of cost.

Personally I don't rate those headlights. They look crap (IMO, make up your own mind) and while they haven't been around long enough to see, I suspect they won't be able to handle a hot Aussie summer without some degredation. Weathersealing seems ok on the ones fitted to local cars, however I have my doubts as to the longevity.

If the only issue with your current lights is the yellowing and discolouration, why not just wet sand them? There's a how-to guide in our DIY vault. I think.

Re: Aftermarket projector/halo headlights - worth the money ?

Thanks Brash, yeah I dunno where I had the idea that the 5g stock lights were glass. I think I got confused with my last car (Accord) which did have glass lights. Looks like my senior moments are kicking in early :)

On my original lights, its not discolouration that is the main issue, its the scratches. Theres a lot of them. I don't know if there is a way to remove those. I've tried some special cream for the job but it didn't make any difference.

Obviously if I can get hold of a set of stock lights in good condition, I'd prefer those.

4G headlights are glass, that may be what you were thinking of. I've never seen headlights from that company before, so I don't know what to say. Perhaps you should look into Depos. Lots of people have them and are very satisfied.

Re: Aftermarket projector/halo headlights - worth the money ?

What is Depo ?

EDIT: Aah ok I've googled it. :) Checking it out now... thanks.

EDIT2: The lights at depoautolights are quite pricey and these ones.. here look identical (the pic is the same) and are pretty much half the price.

These look better though.

First link is junk, Second link is better....Get the DEPO OE lights, cause if you decide you want projectors later, you could always retrofit TRUE hid projectors into those housings

DEPOs are amazing. I've had mine for a year now. Just what I would expect of an OE replacement part, OE quality for sure! As long as you take of em too they shouldn't yellow on you too quickly. I've had mine here in Florida for a year and they still look brand new.

If you can afford them I would recommend them all day long!

if you wanna get rid of the scratches, start off with a lower grit sand paper
and work your way up. then make sure you wax your headlights
everytime you wash your car or they'll turn yellow fast

Re: Aftermarket projector/halo headlights - worth the money ?

simply wet sanding and buffing won't last for very long, cause after you wash the car or it rains, it'll go away over time. Really the best thing to do is wet sand and spray a fresh clear coat on and not the rattle can crap. I use the same clear that's used for your car since I do Auto Body work.

Maybe go by a Body shop, cause you might be able to catch them painting a car, and ask them to spray some clear on your lights while they're working on the car. Of course prep the light before taking it
