I gotta lude story for you.

How goes it? I took my SH into a mech shop to check out some rough idling, idle surges, massive overheating, and weak start issues. I drove the car there and ended up having to get it towed out of the shop because they said 3 of my cylinders were flooded with water.. Now I'm guessing it's because I would hot rod it while it had a blown head gasket in the rainy season. So now I'm just like ****.. It's $800 for a JDMH23vtec complete w/o a tranny or a JDMH22vtec Type-S complete w/o a tranny but I live in an OBD2 State (California) and it's illegal to have a Japanese engine installed here. My friend has a complete H22Avtec; The head is in good condition but the block is seized so I'm probably just going to store my Lude in his garage and just pull the thing out so we can make a spooner. It's obviously going to be cheaper taking the two apart and rebuilding one then buying a complete so I might as well throw a couple engine mods in the beast while I'm at. I'd probly just end up selling it later for a lighter car with more power or close to the same.. I was just looking at some accords; The fifth gen EX's look pretty dope and it might be just that much faster then the Lude with an H22A swap.. IDK guys it's a longshot and theres still alot of ideas in the air; I was just letting you guys know what's going on with someones precious Lude LoL. Opinions? Comments? Advice? Similar experiences?

Re: I gotta lude story for you.

i just wanna know why you would be hot rodding it knowing you had a blown head gasket? sounds really idiotic to me, especially when you could have replaced that hg along with all of your other top end seals for less than $200.

Re: I gotta lude story for you.

JDM motors arnt illegal anywhere, its just if you run the right ecu. You can get a 97-01 jdm prelude h22 and run it with your ecu and be fine

And yeah agreed it was pretty dumb to ruin your motor like that

And where the hell are you able to find a jdm type-s motor for $800? They run 2000-2500 for just the motor. Sure its not a usdm sh motor?

Also a type-s isnt just drop in and go, you need to extend fuel lines for the reversed fuel rail

If you have the right ECU a jdm engine isn't illegal in the states

Re: I gotta lude story for you.

Yea redtops aren't that cheap man, if they were that cheap I'd be putting one of them in my car instead of a blacktop. I would also be very suspicious of anyone selling an engine that cheap.

Anyway you can buy a blacktop out the door for 1000-1300, just handpick it and get a warranty then compression and leakdown test it once you get it installed and started. That's exactly what I plan on doing in the next couple weeks.

Re: I gotta lude story for you.

jdm motors are illegal in CA for partially smog reasons. the motor can be exactly the same as the us market motor but because the block doesnt have the a4 it will fail smog.

you will also get a ref ticket if a cop has you pop your hood.

Re: I gotta lude story for you.

Why would you ride your Lude so hard knowing you have a blown head gasket?!

Would you poke your flesh wound after getting stabbed or would you go find help to patch it up?!?!

Hmmmm....now that's a tough one to answer!!!

I have a hard time understanding why jdm engines are illegal in Cali, if in fact they are. And you beat on your motor while it was in bad shape??? lolll
I almost cried when i read you found jdm engines for 800. Could of turned into a rampage that would of been all over the news loll.
Also if you plan on selling the car, you might as well fix w/e problems it currently has and save the money that you were going to use modding that engine for your new car. Makes sense right?

i appreciate that advice on not modding the engine thnx.. im just going to get the h22a4 and keep it as cheap and legal as possible.. i do regret beating up my prelude after not being able to drive my most prized possesion anymore; i had no idea i could do so much damage to it.
