h22 swap h23 vtec? missing sensor?

anyone know what is the sensor that the h23 vtec don't have that the h22 has? i took my car to a mechanic and he says the h23 doesn't have a sensor inside the timing cover down there somewhere. not sure where. Anyone know what sensor it is? and he says he did some research and said that the car won't start without the sensor. any ideas?

Re: h22 swap h23 vtec? missing sensor?

I just called a guy about buying my new engine, said he didn't have the H22a I wanted but they did have a bluetop H23. He said all you need to do is swap the old crank or oil sensor. I believe it's crank.

that'll depend on if the engine is OBD1/2, and USDM/JDM.

yup i just helped a fellow jersian w/ the H23a swap, we just used the OBD1 H23 dizzy since it has the CKP and TDC sensors inside of it, and extended the 4 wires to the plug. very easy

Re: h22 swap h23 vtec? missing sensor?

What about from a H22a4, to a H23 Vtec, is there a write up anywhere for that? Cause my H22a4 said bye bye on me the other day so now I shopping for new motor and the H23vtec are a lot cheaper? Worth it?

Just go buy a new oem usdm oil pump to put on the jdm h23a blue top, and then if your dizzy on your old motor is still good, just transfer it over, after that it's basically all plug and play. I'd also recomend getting it tuned after the swap as well.

Personally I love this engine in my 5th gen. :-)

Re: h22 swap h23 vtec? missing sensor?

Oh ok, So the dizzy is different from one to the other?
I just bought my motor yesturday, got a good deal on it.

What about emissions testing, any issues? The EGR valve looks different on the H23.

I also found a pick on a Accord CL2 speedometer where you can see the red line one it.
Can i set my rev limiter to be changed and tune it with a stock ECU?

ya it is, JDM has a cam angle sensor in it, USDM doesnt(uses a crank angle sensor off the oil pump). use a USDM one, for the ease of wiring.

And as far as emissions I'm not too sure, you'll have to talk to a local tuning shop near you, see what they can do. otherwise you'll have to go through the process of getting your car exempt from emissions. If possible, i'd get your tabs before you do the swap.

maybe I should put the intake manifold from the h22 so the EGR system remains the same. I ll have to take a look at it closely.

How far are you on your swap?

Thats what i did, although i'm using a skunk2 intake manifold but none the less.

and mines complete, been driving around on it since last winter, Just had it dyno tuned the other day. With bolt ons, i made 198whp and 174wtq

Hey, at least you searched!

What I said is irrelevant to you, since I was talking about using an OBD2 harness w/ OBD1 dizzy which wasn't direct plug and play.

But if you have both OBD1 dizzy and harness, than they shoulda plugged directly together, correct?

It's not cranking at all? Not even a click? Check the batt?

Re: h22 swap h23 vtec? missing sensor?

i got super stuck.. so i went buy i h22a4 oil pump installed it with a brand new crank position sensor...

now what do i use my odb1 dizzy or odb2 (H23a) thats came with the motor

and send the wire to the distributor..

it was priming.. started when it wanted to but (when i did get it to start)
it never wanted to start up again right after..
i changed started twice.. so i know its not the coil..
then i thought it was the battery.. check out fine ( i even had a battery jumper on it just incase the battery was baD)
then went through every thing with a voltage meter everything had power
then i called xenocron they said i had to putt the cpk..
now all thats done.. now i need to figure out.. what dizzydo i use and where i got to send the new sensors too.??
some kind of wireing diagram will be AMAZING help!!
its being a pain in the ass now!!
screwed right haha??
