Auto Transmission Fluid Servicing

So my transmission been acting out and slipping, yes its an auto, and so I've decided to change the transmission fluid and see if it helps. I'm wondering if the 5th gens have a filter for it or anything, and how hard is it to change the fluid?

Re: Auto Transmission Fluid Servicing

you can do this, change the fluid, and put a magnet in the fluid check for matal shavings if so you screwed!!!, otherwise clean the solinoids on the tranny, and you can get a cooler but i dont reccommend it. best recommendation would be i hope u have $$ and do a 5spd swap soon, if you dont have money, find yourself a nice decent 99-01 tranny buy a tranny cooler and dont beat on it meanwhile your saving money for a swap. otherwise its gonna go out soon and you'll be left in the middle of bumbblefuk without a ride.

Re: Auto Transmission Fluid Servicing

In answer to your question...no they don't have a filter and yes you can change it by yourself. To do a full flush you'll need 3-4 litres of Honda ATF. Keeping fresh fluid in them is the only way to keep them alive.

Re: Auto Transmission Fluid Servicing

Any thoughts on using this new Purple Synthetic ATF as opposed to the Honda ATF ?

Re: Auto Transmission Fluid Servicing

I've heard you can only use Honda genuine trans oil. If you look in a service manual for it it doesn't tell you what type of trans fluid you can put in it, it just says use honda genuine trans oil.

Re: Auto Transmission Fluid Servicing

Ignorance is bliss in my case. I've kept with Honda ATF for that reason.
