Change axles for manual swap?

Hi, i am driving a 1999 honda prelude auto transmission. I am doing a 5 speed manual swap and was wondering do i need to change my axles to a manual axle? or would the auto axles work? thanks

Re: Change axles for manual swap?

no... i got my swap done like 2 months ago. You just need the manual halfshaft ( intermediate shaft) from a manual h22 and NOT the SH( i think SH is different)

bustr who did my swap, modified the mounting bracket on my auto half shaft by welding and it works great ( the angle of the mounting bracket is different or something)

edit: prolly wasn't clear enough but, your axles will work fine, just need the half shaft, the part that sticks out of the tranny itself and connects to the axle..

gl with the swap!

Re: Change axles for manual swap?

hmmmm my dad is a mechanic and he told me that i don't need to change the axles and that its compatible.. but i just wanna make sure that i do need to change the axles so i can do everything at once. so is it 100% that we have to change the axles? And for the midshaft you got any good sites to buy it from?

Re: Change axles for manual swap?

dude... did you not read anything i wrote? you DONT need new axles, you just need a 5 speed half shaft also know as mid or intermediate shaft from a manual prelude

read this post from preludepower, he has everything listed that you NEED and optional components. very informative post.

Re: Change axles for manual swap?

If it were me, I'd just change them while you're there. A nice shiny set of brand new axels would go in as a failsafe. Never hafta worry about it again.

Re: Change axles for manual swap?

The axles can stay the way they are!!! It's the halfshaft that you have to modify!!! Like Gotulukn said...do some welding on the halfshaft to make it fit.

My link under my sig has a pic of what Bustr did to my halfshaft. He welded a bracket from a manual halfshaft onto my auto halfshaft to make it work and it's been great ever since!!!
