Changing ignition?

Is it going to be trouble changing the ignition due to the immobilizer? Would I have to go through the trouble of getting the immobilizer reset and all that?
The reason as to why i need to change the ignition is because my prelude will just shut off sometimes because the key wont stay clicked into the on position. There is no click once I turn the key back; just a slight pull back will shut the car off. There is a click on accessory and on, but once I start it and it turns back to on, there is no click/lock position.

Hope that made sense, if not, I will try to elaborate it more..

Re: Changing ignition?

I did some research, and yes, it seems like it is going to cost a lot of money just to replace the ignition switch.

You are correct sir. I just replaced my starter and that thing ran me $115.00. Nothing is cheap on these cars. Sorry I'm not sure about the immobilizer don't even know if it an all together deal like, when you buy a new ignition I would think it would come with the immobilizer and new keys to include the red code key.

Re: Changing ignition?

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be cheap. It would cost more or less around the 5-600 dollar mark I'm assuming, possibly even more.

Re: Changing ignition?

are you manual or auto...??? what year??? there is actually a honda recall on ignition switches. it is not hard to change it... no need to worry about the immobilizer when you change the switch... its not the tumbler you are changing... its the connector on the back of it... two small torque screws or 8mm bolts gold in color. check w/ honda first it might be covered from the recall.
