first 2 months of the honda world

I've only had my prelude for close to two months now and a old man side swiped me yesterday and pinned me in between him and a concrete bridge

passenger door: ruined
passenger front fender: ruined
ALL 4 rims: ruined
front bumper cover: ruined
paint job: will need a new one

my car is a 2001, does anyone know about what the insurance company will say its worth? i hope they dont declare it totalled but if they do i'm goin to try to find a 5 speed thats is nearly stock for sale and buy it.

Re: first 2 months of the honda world

They will probably total it out. I'd also try to buy it back from the insurance company to part it out or something.

Re: first 2 months of the honda world

Sometimes you can buy your car back for dirt cheap. If it isn't a major difference between what they offer you without getting it back it would be worth it in the end to sell the engine and other things that are good.

damn, that sux. but if its 100% the other guys fault, he should have to pay the difference of what insuance doesnt. just whatever shop you take it to, have them bill insurance for like 100 less than there limit on the cars value, then the fool who hit you pays the balance to the shop. no reason you should lose YOUR ride when its 100% someone elses fault!

Kelly Blue Book has it at private seller value of $6000 in good condition , like $6500 in excellent condition.

I'm not sure what insurance companies say the depreciated value would be. I'm guessing you had full coverage plus collision? You would be surprised what I have seen and the insurance companies total it for a fender bender. If they do total it, buy it back for like $500. Not sure what they will want for it but they will sell it to you, and if you buy it back guess what the title if you had a clean one before the wreck guess what? It's still clean, if you buy and fix it yourself.

Post some pics of the damage I am pretty good at ball park figures to get it fixed. Do tell what the pictures hide. So I can better guess a ball park figure.

Re: first 2 months of the honda world

samething happened to my 93 only they hit me in the driverside quarter. Car blue booked at around 3k like 2900 or somethin n they gave me the entire blue book value for excellent condtion. PLus i got to keep the car bc they didnt total it. Sold it for 1200 on top lol. Basically it all depends on how the ins co feels haha. Good luck tho hope u can get a new one qwik

my car got hit, and it got totaled, even tho it wasn't my fault at all...

but to the original poster, you can buy it back for how much it will cost the insurance company to junk it, shouldn't be more then 200 bucks. and you can make that back, plus some if you part it out. its what i did with my old car, it had 4k worth of damage and was worth to the company about 1.5k... but from my experience the insurance is usually 100-500 less than the KBB value.

Re: first 2 months of the honda world

well i only had liability/uninsured motorist. and of course the guy didnt have insurance.

here is a link to some pictures:

there is one spot in the front bottom corner of the rear passenger fender well, on the very bottom of the corher it is pushed in.

and it is obvious that is wasnt in excellent condition, the hood and mirrors have chips in the paint.

Re: first 2 months of the honda world

you can get a decent set of aftermarkt rims for $600 to $700. around $1000 with tires brand new maybe a little less.

If they gave you $500 for rims then they already sourced a set out for that much. Used. New oe replacements are around $250 each.
