if you're engine is knocking, do not answer it, it's going to blow. Honestly do not drive it unless you want to end up not driving your sh anymore.

i say check your oil, if not add just a bit more. what kind of oil are you also using??

is it a slight knocking or like a knocking like literally you can tell its gonna knock thru you block?

If its knocking its a bit late don't you think? I'm not sure if ihubbard is not that mechanically inclined and this thing ran on low oil for way too long and if that is so and a rod is knocking its only a matter of time before that rod breaks and then the crank is going to spin around and send that sucker right thru the front of the motor I've seen it happen twice. Best thing to dojack that sucker up drain all the oil out of it, pull off the oil pan and clean that sucker out, look for shavings of metal or chunks of metal in there. Clean it out really good and buy a new gasket reinstall the oil pan with the new gasket. change the oil filter fill with new oil, what type did you use? I would use 5W30, run the car for like 1000 miles and change the oil again. Change it like a couple times like that and hopefully no damage was done, good luck

Re: HELP! engine knocking

The motor is pretty much done...if your still driving it around I would suggest running thicker oil and let the engine idle for a little while before driving it. the knocking should be the loudest when first started right?

Re: HELP! engine knocking

its not necessarily done, could just be a bearing going bad. and if you catch it soon enough there will be minimal repairs and it wont be too hard on the wallet.

knocking could be a rod.. or blew a hole out the bottom of the motor

Re: HELP! engine knocking

Are you sure its a rod knocking sound?

Could be a stuck lifter? it would sound more like a ticking sound.

I would get one of those stethoscope things at Auto Zone with that long rod on it to touch places around the motor to finds the knocks and pings. That will even help you find what cylinder it is that is knocking.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/automotive-...41&zmap=362356

Should be a picture of it on that link, I have one its great. I got mine when I thought I heard the water pump bearing making noise, and you know what it was, so I got the timing belt job done before a threw the timing belt. Saved me a ton of money

Re: HELP! engine knocking

Drove it to my mechanics garage today so he could take a look at it. Its still a very loud noise and there seems to be no noticeable power loss, of course I wasn't exactly trying to drive it hard.

Re: HELP! engine knocking

If i were you i would take off the oil pan and see how much your rods move on the crank, if you grab it and try to move it side to side on the crank it should not move very much. If it clearly does move a bit then i would suggest putting in new rod bearings while your crank is still good. The bearings can be put in while the engine is still in the car and the mechanic you have should be able to do it for a good price, bearings are less than 100 so if your lucky get that checked out quick and try not to drive it too much.make sure the mechanic toque's them properly and just to be safe a week or two after drop the pan again and re torque them.

Yeah bro, that motor is going to blow, it's exactly what happened to mine. Changed the oil, everything was clean, still knocking and then POOF! H22 is dead. Can't wait to drop f20b in it now.

Re: HELP! engine knocking

I had the same problem, i checked the oil and it was starving for oil.. basically that sound could be metal on metal if you have extremely low oil.. so check that out, BTW, my motor threw a rod as a result. be safe, not sorry

Re: HELP! engine knocking

Im getting the same kind of tick/knock from my 96 SI. Haven't done anything yet, just drove the car once since i bought it. It wants to die at idle rpms and the knock is real bad right when i start it up and its obviously not getting as much power as it should. Could it be a jammed lifter?? Im broke and don't know what to do.

Re: HELP! engine knocking

^Maybe you need a valve adjustment. If it's a rod knock you will hear it over anything and it won't go away. But since it's only happening in park and neutral I can't see why it would only do it in those 2 gears. I know I have a soon to be bad alternator belt and it mainly squeaks when Im in reverse or park.

Re: HELP! engine knocking

check your valve lash, if they are fine check into replacing the LMA's on it. What does it sound like? Knock or ticking noise? if tickling etc.... LMA's you can get em as cheap as $12.02 from honda each. you will need 8 of them.
