Re: Steering wheel sideways....

this happened to a buddy on his accord and his rack bolts had loosened up and fallen out. so check that out. you cant just turn the steering wheel over like that, there are slots on the steering wheel that will only allow it to line up one way.

Re: Steering wheel sideways....

Haha, mine's like this too. A friend told me that an alignment will fix it, but I'm not convinced. It seems to steer fine, but it's an extra 45 degrees (give or take) to the right.

just take it in for an alignment, they will tell you what you need to have done, it may just be the alignment.

So I'm confused. Can I straighten it out as best as possible and get an alignment? Someone is wrong here...lol

yes you can "center" the steering wheel (not "straighten", at first I thought you meant your steering wheel was bent or something) but you can take it off by- First make sure the ft wheels are facing as close to straight as you can get them. Then disconnect the battery- for when you are unplugging air bag wires. there are two screws, one on each side of the wheel to get the air bag off. Pull up air bag unit and unplug and set aside. you may now have to unplug the clock spring and turn signal plugs but im not sure. If you do take off the clock spring make sure you tape it or something so the wire doesn't spin around the ring when it is off, keep in same position that it comes off. unbolt the one center big nut. tip: after nut is off put it back on loosely and pull hard on wheel and rock back and forth. It will finally pop off ( and if that nut wasnt on there you would hit yourself right in the face with it. lol) the wheel is seated on a spline shaft just move the steering wheel as centered as you can and push it back on the splines and tighten nut and put back together. But now everybody is right....you should Still have it aligned! If you dont your tie rods can be off and you will chew up your tires real fast. You pretty much just have to adjust the toe angle. You can actually do this in your driveway with a couple wrenches and a tape measure if you really wanted and didnt wanna spend the money to get it aligned by pros.

Re: Steering wheel sideways....

Does it really matter what torque I tighten the center nut to? My torque wrench doesn't go as high as the FSM recommends. By the way, thanks for the clarification man, I truly appreciate it.

Re: Steering wheel sideways....

I thought we were helping gotadog?

Anyhow if he just takes it in to have the alignment done the after they are finished with the alignment the steering wheel will be straight.

As for the other guy, do you have an aftermarket steering wheel? You may have a totally difference issue altogether.

Re: Steering wheel sideways....

Nope, all stock. I need an alignment anyways. I figured by solving my problem, the OP would be solved as well, considering it's the same problem

ah then I would take it in for alignment some places will do a lifetime alignment it costs a little more but if you have any issues with alignment they will redo it.

Plus you might have some tie rod troubles or something, don't worry they will let you know, I know I just had mine done. I hate it when they got you on the ropes like that. I paid $110 for an outer left tie rod end. D@mn I hated that.

Re: Steering wheel sideways....

Well if it's an issue like that, I will just install the part and let them align it afterwards, lol. I believe the idiots before me had an aftermarket steering wheel on it at one point. I figure they didn't straighten the wheels before the reinstallation of the stock wheel.
