Hey Inspire.. how good/comfortable are you at building a small circuit with a 555 chip... I have the Perfect solution to your dual brightness problem.

Re: EXT: LED Taillights

Couldn't you just have have it going like a checkerboard, and having each odd light off when normal bright, but when you press the brake, have all illuminated?

Re: EXT: LED Taillights

Not sure law enforcement would agree with that.... I've thought about doing the same thing... like just build a ring of LED's around the outside then have the inside of the ring light up when you press the brakes. The problem is the intensity of the light.
Most States require a difference in the dimness/Brightness between running and braking.

There is a way to do it other than working with circuitry, it just requires you to use a pre-assembled "truck" light (like what you see on the back of semi-truck trailers) and disassemble the control board out of it. But you know me and building things. It's got to be all custom or go home..... :p
